Please help my nephew!
A few days ago, my nephew, 18 month old Lucas, was diagnosed with Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, or HLH for short. HLH is a rare autoimmune blood disorder that affects mostly children and occurs in about 1 out of every 50,000. It's not cancerous but is treated nearly the same way. He will be going through chemotherapy, steroid treatments and, if it's found to be genetic, will ultimately need a bone marrow transplant. The mortality rate is between 30-50%.
As of right now, my sister, her husband and Lucas are at Seattle children's hospital and Lucas began his treatment yesterday with his first round of chemo. They will be there for a minimum of 4 weeks and outpatient treatment will last anywhere from 9 to 30 weeks depending on how he responds. I'm reaching out to everyone I possibly can to help my sister and her family out right now. Please keep Lucas in your thoughts and prayers. I've also started a fundraiser to help with the medical bills and other expenses while they are out of work so if you would like to help, any donation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking to the time to read this and God bless. Below is the link for the fundraiser. http://www.youcaring.com/fundraiser_...ensefundraiser Last edited by Uneducated Guess; 09-02-2012 at 08:00 PM. |

Thank you.
My sister has started a facebook page so that others may keep themselves updated with his progress through treatment. https://www.facebook.com/LucasFightW...user=636585473 |

Seattle has excellent hospitals. Lucas is in safe hands, I'll keep him in my prayers.

I have a friend who has spent a LOT of time at Seattle Children's, with her daughter - she knows a ton of people there, and may be able to help point your sis in the right direction for anything they need, all the way down to a friendly ear to listen. I will pass the FB link on to her.

My friend sent them a message via the FB page. Her name is Stacey, tell your sis that she is a wonderful lady, who can be their Seattle connection for the duration...
