Settle a debate... IROC?

Hey all... I have searched the web and outside of iroczcamaro.com I can't find anything that tells me for certain that GM is going to resurrect this model. That site appears to be nothing more than propaganda anyways, displaying pictures of 5th Gen Camaros in IROC gear. I have seen the SEMA car and seen articles relating to aftermarket items for a 6th Gen to create an IROC, but nothing from GM itself confirming this.

So Camaro / GM brethren... Settle this dispute. Is it, or is it not going to be in the Camaro lineup for 2018 / 2019? Thanks.

I highly doubt they are bringing it back. I mean, what for? And where would it fit?

I seriously doubt if GM will bring back the IROC. Other manufacturers/companies may come out with their own version, but not GM.

GM know I believe they sold the IROC Nameplate and 6LE designs purchased the rights to it.

Some aftermarket company made an IROC custom Camaro. They might sell it, I don't know. But this is NOT a factory IROC. GM sold the rights to the name years ago.

No sense making an IROC Camaro without the IROC racing series ,which i wouldn't mind seeing a new version of the racing series. If they did make a IROC camaro now it would just be another sticker package car .

GM has nothing to do with Camaro seen at Sema (2017) that was sporting a TON of body modification. As mentioned, an aftermarket company bought the rights to the name.

The International Race of Champions (IROC) was a North American auto racing competition run by a company by the same name. In 2007 IROC couldn't find a sponsor and in 2008 they went out of business. Chevy was licensed to use the name while they were a sponsor. Dodge also used the IROC name on their Daytona while they were a sponsor. It looks like 6LEDesigns acquired the IROC trademark earlier this year.

According to the interweb the following cars were used for IROC over the years:

1974 Porsche Carrera RSR
1975 - 1989 Chevrolet Camaro
1990 - 1993 Dodge Daytona
1994 - 1995 Dodge Avenger
1996 - 2006 Pontiac Trans Am

You will never see an Iroc name from GM again, they don't own the name. The 91 models were released 3 months into the 90 model year because GM didnt renew the license and Dodge got it for the Daytona. Iirc GM originally intended to finish out the 90 model Iroc but Dodge wasn't having it, forcing GM to pull the 91's ahead. Present day, as mentioned already, 6LE bought the rights to use the name.

No GM won’t be putting it out. Anything else is just a badge.

There's no point in it. IROC at this point is just a nostalgia name. Back in the 80s and early 90s, it was used as a selling point because the racing series was using Camaros.

First to the OPs question......why? It would only be a tribute to a history that really doesn't need to be dug up.

That being said, if GM think they can make money on it they will just buy it back like they did the ZL1 when at the last minute they decided the Z/28 couldn't have a FI engine.

IROC was licensed from the series, they didn’t own it. It wasn’t an existing RPO like ZL1 or Z28. Apples to oranges.
