Trans temperature on A6
What should the trans temp be at cold start first thing in the morning? This is what mine shows. Is this right? I don't recall if the gauge should start off at 30 degrees and slowly climb up to say 180 while driving for some time. Is this normal to start off this high on a cold morning after the car has been parked overnight?
I am wondering if my gauge is showing a false reading because I noticed yesterday that it climbed up to 230 for the first time while sitting in traffic on a nice 75F day. The most I've seen it go up in the past is 180. I have a 3600 stall and ADM trans cooler and never seen it go up this high before especially while sitting in traffic. thanks

That's fine for a cold start, especially considering the ambient temps we've been having.

It might be a couple quarts low. 220+ is death valley!

I was sitting in traffic and the trans was in manual mode. The M started to flash. I put it in D and the D was also flashing. I then realized the trans was getting hot and it stopped shifting past 3rd. At this point tap shifting was completely disabled. I pulled over and turned off the car for 2 minutes, restarted and all was ok but the trans stayed at around 230 for the rest of the drive home. Check engine light came on and it's throwing p0700 and p0716 code. I deleted the codes and it seems fine for now. Not sure whats going on but others experienced same problem on stock car.

Trans should not be getting that hot. I have a Yank 2800 and ADM cooler. The most I think I have EVER seen is between 190-200 on a 110* day and heavy traffic. Most of the time it stayed around 180* fully warmed up on a hot day. Something is wrong. I would get it checked out ASAP

The P700 is an informational codes states there is a trans code.
P0716 means the transmission input speed sensor( AKA: turbine speed ) signal has been lost/no reading. That code will give you the no shift condition. |

The thing to do is have you tuner turn the fans on high at a lower temp. That will help keep the transmission cooling temp lower in stop and go.

230 and you will cook the trans very quickly. Don't ask me how I know. You have a problem. Maybe a line is partially blocked, something. Way to many parts to diagnose on a keyboard and since I stayed at my house last night and not a Holiday Inn I'm dumber than ever!!
I can hot lap my car in 100 degree heat at the track and I'll never see above 180. That's a log temperature, not the idiot gauge. |

I have a stall + ADM cooler, and I never see over 180F on it. Good luck on the fix

Your clutches are gone or very near to be gone, pull pan and look at your oil, most likely you'll need to rebuild your trans....I've been there twice!

I also have a 3600 Stall and Adm cooler and mine usually is between 175-180 under normal driving! If I run it WOT a couple of back to back 1/4 passes on the street, it may go to 190.
Sounds like there is an issue. |

It seems to be back to normal now after I turned the engine off and back on. I drove it about 10 miles last Sunday for a photo shoot and everything seems normal, the temps didn't go above 180. WTH? I'm afraid to drive it 28 miles to work in traffic though.
