Way too Much $!$!$!
I just got off the phone with a shop that quoted me 120$ an hour labor @ 6hrs for a header/HF cat installation. Frankly I'm offended, don't know if you guys agree or not, but I feel that's insane! I will not drop the shop name unless it's in a PM so as not to "bad mouth" the shop in public. Just venting at some one trying to gouge me out of my money.

$120 is pretty steep for a shop too (?).

For comparison, I talked to another shop that said 300$ flat for install, how do people get away with doing this?!

Just bad mouth them anyway so we know better than to go pay their dealer priced rates.

Good lord that's insane. I was gonna head out to Texas for some work done next month. Guess I won't know. lol
In all seriousness that's insane. I bought some aftermarket non-RS halos and was asking around about install. The one place that actually would do it wanted around $500 for the installation and then they said they would have to send my car to another shop a few miles away for the removal of the bumper, then they'd install it, then they'd transport it back to the other shop for the bumper to be reinstalled...and the transport fee and other shop fees weren't included in that 500. Oh and they said since they haven't done halos on a camaro before that was my discounted rate so they could take pics and get experience on how it's done. |

Yeah! I just said "thank you for your time" and hung up slack jawed. That's really just rediculous imo. I've only seen gouging like that in some of the shops around Camp lejeune NC when I was active. This was in 2001, so quite some time ago.

That's right at what the shop I am going to quoted me at. 100$ less cause I already have a CAI. 300 for install and 500 for full dyno/street tune and he pretty much takes as much time as needed to make you happy with the end result.

2 reasons, first I dont have a jack that goes high enough (easily replaced). Second, I'm a disabled vet, I just can't physically roll around and wrench like I did as a Marine Corps diesel engineer. A three hour header project will land me in the bed, or even hospital for atleast a week. It sucks, but I'm alive and drive one of the prettiest cars ever made, imo.

if a shop can't install headers in 4 hours or less, they aren't a very good shop. Seeing as how I installed headers on a 5th gen in 5 hours, and I had to do some fab work on the off road pipes...

a four hour job at around $65/hour is fair price IMO.. it's not like it requires any special tools other than a lift..
