Sorry if I've got this wrong (I get my Camaro next week) but cant you turn the traction control off which would certainly help in such icy conditions?

Any luck with Eagle All Season tires
I agree P Zero's are life threatening. Anyone have any luck with all season tires on Gen 5s?

Yes. Have had almost no problems driving around in the snow with Conti ExtremeContact DWS on my 2SS. Once or twice I felt the back end start to slide out for a second or two, but that's it...SO MUCH better in the snow than my '94 Z28....lol

I'm a bit of an idiot when it comes to stuff like this, so can you or anyone else explain why such a counter-intuitive move (turning off traction control in winter weather) would actually help traction?

We have DWS's on our ZL1 and drove in the snow today with no problems at all. Lots of traction with the all the nanny's on.

I would only turn off traction control if I needed to spin my way thru a snow bank. With it on as soon as I start to spin the brakes would hold me back and probably keep me from getting thru.
Normal driving I leave them on, always plan ahead on if I need to get a run on something or possibly need to push my way thru something then I turn off traction control. |

My bond with camaro's was formed when I drove from work (a drive in theater) to home during a Missouri Ice Storm. At one point we needed to make a left hand turn at a fork in the road and when a dog ran out we did a 360+ and wound up facing up the right hand lane.No damage to the car, no harm to dog, and newfound respect for the Camaro's handling abilities.

My first snow experience was just when I bought the car. I picked it up in December of 2010. Few weeks later I wanted to ‘test’ the capability of the Pirelli Summer tires in snow. I made it to the bottom of my driveway and instantly got stuck. More gas I gave only made it rotate. Took me and 2 of my buddies 20mins to push it back up.
How you made a drive like that, I have no idea…. Lol |
