I don't think most of the people that will be winning races with this car will care.

So yes, a good driver in a GT can beat a average driver in a Camaro.

The true discussion will begin after the LA auto show, when Ford finally shows its hand. Then things will get very interesting.
That camaro driver would have to be below average lol. But if the tossed around specs stay true to the 5.0, GM has nothing planned to increase the SS's performance, then the 2011 GT will in fact beat the 2011 Camaro. Will be interesting... I want to see the Weight, RWHP, and price increase/decrease.

Hey all. First post over here on camaro 5. Been a member over at ls1tech since 2004 with same user name.

Anyway. Here is my .02.

If the mustang is 400 horsepower and gains a little weight. Say it comes in at 3600 pounds even..which is most likely the case, the camaro will still have a roughly 30 horsepower advantage as well as a torque advantage. If the GT doesnt gain any weight and stays in the 35xx range it will still be a close race.

Using the simple rule of 100 lbs per tenth and 10 hp per tenth and the camaro weighing in at 3860 with the m6 makes this look like a drivers race. If the camaro gets the 3.73 gears for 2011 this will help also.

Why is everyone talking like the mustang will be a slam dunk? It will still be a close race and I wouldnt be surprised if the camaro still edged out the mustang. Also I would still prefer a 6.2 liter pushrod motor over the 5.0. Simply being the bigger motor it should gain more from mods as well. Not to mention the Modular motors are known for not responding as well to NA mods as the LS series.

that is all

When you get to speeds above 70 the extra HP in that Camaro REALLY starts to flex its muscle. Contrary to what most on here say, the two are VERY close up to about 60 mph (don't believe the fan boys), however once you start getting above those speeds you will DEFINATELY see the the Camaro start walking off. Nonetheless if he had really been trying his front quarter panel should have been about even with your tail lights and then slowly started eeking a way by a few feet very few seconds...and by then you would have both been doing speeds WAY in excess of 100mph to my estimation so....

Either he was in a v6, or he goaded you and then left off for a laugh.

:bangdesk:

Let's ignore the fact that the 2010 Mustang hasn't broken 12's. Let's ignore the fact the fastest 2010 has been 13.2x, while the Camaro's has been 12.8x. Why don't you search the dozens of Mustang vs. Camaro threads?

I have no idea where the hell people get these price numbers...

Typically this is what a base Mustang will cost you-
Base 2010 Mustang GT MSRP: $27,995.
Destination Charge: $850
Total: $28,845

However, you can't get a "base" Mustang if you want its amazing handling. What all those reviews say is that the Track Pack makes handle so well. The only way to add a track pack is getting a Mustang GT Premium. So here your real price:

Premium 2010 Mustang GT MSRP: $27,995.
Track Pack: $1,530
Destination Charge: $850
Total: $33,375

Compare to a Camaro 1SS. I don't include any extra's on the Camaro because none of the extra's affect performance. Unlike what the reviews wrote, the RS package does NOT add 20-inch wheels; those are standard.

2010 Chevy Camaro 1SS MSRP: $30,745
Destination Charge: $850
Total: $31,595

So right now you have to pay $1780 MORE for a Mustang with 110 less HP, slow 0-60 times, and slower 1/4 miles.

One more thing, here are the following discounts for a Mustang and Camaro:

Ford-
Cash Back: $1000
Military: $500
New total with both incentives: $31,875

Chevy-
60 day rebate: $500
USAA member (even non-military can join for free): $750
New total with both incentives: $30,345

Still a $1530 difference, or $2030 if you are not active duty. You would only get the $500 military Ford discount if you are on active service, which most people ARE NOT. Plus, these numbers WITHOUT getting a supplier pricing discount from GM. I don't know if Ford has supplier pricing, so I didn't include. Feel free to respond back with those numbers if they do.

Yup. Didn't feel like doing all the work again, plus I think I make my point pretty clear. I hate it when people misinform the price numbers.

You hate when people misinform the price numbers?

mustang gt premium- 27,995
Track pack- 1,530
Destination- 850

Total= 30, 375

Not to mention you compared a fully loaded mustang to a bare bones camaro (for pricing reasons, I understand why you did it performance wise). The regular mustang outhandles the camaro as well though its not as dominant.
As a side noteEven with the 3.73 rear axle in a straight line the mustang doesn't have much chance past 75 mph.

Also, for incentives, You forgot the additional 1k cashback and 0 percent financing for the mustang.

I hate when people misinform price numbers too.

Your right I did'nt even realize he must have done his math wrong. There is still about a 1k difference in favor of the Mustang.
