Ambient dash lighting
Anyone know of any updated newer easier kits out there? Last I saw, gen5diy seemed to have the best one. Still too much work for this old fart.

I have an IOM smjautoprod kit I'd sell you. I tried the install and decided it was too much for me, because I don't have much time for modding and I wanted to extend the doors, too.

Is this to extend the blue light from door to door along the brim of the dash? If so will you post if it was difficult to install or not? |

Yes it is. There are a couple kits on the market and this one 'sounds' the easiest. We shall see........

If you do go ahead and get the ones from SJM could you let us know how the installation goes? I got some from gen5diy but I didn't have the heart to start drilling holes in my dash. I ended up just getting some LEDs off amazon that more or less did the job. But if this no drill install is a good option I will see about getting one myself.

This kit was fairly easy....after you figure things out. Thats where the problem starts. There are a couple good DIY write ups here. Detailed instructions seem to be tough (and I now know why) for the makers of these parts.
Yes, there is some required drilling (for my 2010 it was only one place..the drivers side) but it is really simple. For me, the most frustrating part was getting the long passenger side tube to just that right height for it to match the rest. Other than that, this plug & play version was really easy. And be really careful with some of clips/fasteners. My best advise...make sure to take your time and think It through. Mine took a week. It doesn't take that long....but I had the time. There are some good videos on You Tube. Even one by gen5diy. Bottom line if you have some experience in car electronics installation and plety of patience...go for it. If not, find a pro. Was it worth it? YES. Would I do it again? NO.
