In magazine testing? I think they might hit 12.0 or 12.1 The A10 will help the Camaro, but I don't think it will be as drastic as it was for the Mustang going from A6 to A10. The A8 in the camaro was pretty good. Will be interesting to see for sure!

Well the Mustang didn't get all those increases due to the A10 trans alone. There were several upgrades done that all worked in concert. The Camaro however is already on par with the Mustang and has been at this level already far longer. Going from the A6 to the A8 with the other changes increased the SS's performance dramatically. From a 13.0-13.2 to a 12.3. So scaling things, it is possible that the A10 with the tuning and any other changes that might accompany it will take off a good 3-4 tenths. I think it'll definitely be faster than the GT on the track and in the quarter mile.

The 10 speed probably will help the camaro up to 100 mph or so. But, up top the stang is going to pull it down.

To the best of our cowboy science abilities, we marked off what probably was pretty close to a mile and went for it. The Mustang repeatedly beat the Camaro, showing 159 mph on its speedo to the Chevy’s 151 mph. The Ford was about four car lengths ahead each time, too. And by “each time,” I mean we did this about 30 times in a row. (Check out the video at Motor Trend OnDemand)

When the camaro went from A6 to A8 it also went from 5th Gen to 6th gen, Zeta to Alpha, L99 to LT1 it was a completely different car so that is no way apples to apples like the S550 going from A6 to A10. Yes the S550 got a lot of other updates, but it didn't go through anything like the Camaro did switching from 5th to 6th.

the A8 is a good transmission. Much better(performance wise) than the A6 that was in the Mustang, I expect the A10 to help but I just don't think it will be as drastic as a change in the Camaro as it was for the mustang

I think the bump in HP / TQ was more helpful to the Mustang than the A10. Lots of A10s can't get out of the low 12s, even with drag mode. And their traps were the same or barely better than the Camaro. Now I'm not saying the A10 didn't help, but I don't buy that it made a 'drastic' difference.

I've read that this was more of a gearing issue. Up to the quarter, it's mostly even. And if I was mistaken (which is quite possible), the Camaro was actually in front. Off the line 0-60, I'll also bet on the Camaro any day of the week.

Manual to Manual, the Camaro usually bests the Mustang in the quarter, but again, may get taken as the triple digits climb due to gearing more than anything else.

The 10r80 keeps the higher reving coyote in the meat of the powerband better at higher speeds for sure. I’m sure the 19 camaro will be setup optimally for the lt1 torque.

The Corvette made ZERO gains going from A6 to A8. Statistically, the faster cars were actually the A6 vettes.

The A10 has essentially the same gearing as the A8 up to about 100mph. The A10 has an extra gear smashed in at about 100-120, and an extra overdrive. That's it.

The A10 will help MAYBE .05 seconds at most.

The m6 Camaro is in overdrive after 140 mph. The mustang not until 158.

In any reasonable race up to 140 or so the m6 Camaro is every bit as fast or faster. It trapped a touch more tested on same day. Was also a tenth quicker

I gained .2 from trans tuning alone on my car

You have no idea how gm will have it optimized. Even with similar gearing it could still gain more than that.

You very well could be right I’m just saying....

Not sure about that. Seem MT stated that after the 1/4 the GT is pulling away. So after 115-mph?

By the end of the quarter mile, the Camaro is still in the lead but not by much: 12.5 seconds at 115.2 mph for the Chevy versus the Mustang’s 12.6 seconds at 115.1 mph. Road test editor Chris Walton, our straight-line guru, told me that were we to lengthen the race, the Ford would win because at that point the Chevy’s torque and traction advantage is gone, and high-reving DOHC horsepower takes over.

Yeah, that sounds about right. That top end is where the Coyote holds the advantage.
