Running no front license plate
So Ontario is still stuck in the 1700s and requires cars to have a front license plate.
Has anyone tried running without one and can share their experience? Do you get pulled over often and/or have you ever been charged? I want to do it but I don't know if I am willing to risk it. |

I tried driving around my first 2010 Camaro without a front license plate and was able to go undetected for about 6 months....then i got stopped and was given a warning to put the plate on otherwise I was going to get a fine....
It is a shame that we are required to have it on our cars....it does take away from the look of the vehicle..... Still looks bad ass.....

depends where you are and where you drive. I know people in Hamilton that have gotten away with it for 6+years

I went 2 years with no front plate, got pulled over last spring with just a warning but put it back on. From what I've read after you get a warning you will get a $115 fine but you can still run with no plate as long as you are willing to face another $115 fine.

Ive driven around Toronto and the gta since summer of 2011 with my plate retracted down under splitter for the most part. Got pulled over once and while the officer walked toward the car I put it up. Officer first approached me and ask why I don't have a plate. I said officer, what are you talking about, I do. At this point she walked to the front and noticed that it was there, however I had a plastic tinted cover. She then used the plate cover as a reason for not seeing the plate. I was given a warning and told that the cover is not legal and to remove it. To my delight I replied, yes officer. I guess Ive been pretty lucky. I do from time to time put it up temporarily if I'm next to a cop or one is approaching from a distance. I do hate the look of the front plate.

My sister has been driving her Camaro for over two years with no plate and no problems. I have been driving mine four months with no issues in Texas so far

I had the remote hide a plate until I did a high speed run at Race the Runway, It broke off at the 1/4 mile marker

My car was bought in MTL so it has no plate mount in front. Being in ON I know I need to have a plate so I ordered one, but will not put it on until I get pulled over. I hate the way it ruins the look of the car

Actually, back in the 1700's, we had to have license plates on the front, back, AND on the sides.
The plates in front don't really bother me as much as the registration stickers and safety inspection stickers they make you put in the front windshield. Thankfully, Texas just changed the rules and you will only have to have one of the ugly stickers in the window. As for plates (and stickers), cars over a certain age that you register as an antique don't require anything beyond one plate in the back. Gotta love that on my older cars..!

jacfab, only way to go. Strong, lightweight and fits. cost about the same as the ticket you get. Can take it off for car shows and pics easily. No drill.

Bought my car in Guelph and was pulled over 3 hours after taking it off the lot in Port Dover for no front plate. Gave the excuse that the plate bracket was back ordered as I just purchased the car the same day. Got a stern warning to put the plate on and dont let him see me again without it. 10 months later I still refuse to put it on, i'll pay the fine, and stay in love with the way it looks without

I had my printer copy a dozen of these peel and stick. Removable stickers - should be good for a few years and looks real too! If you are interested let me know I can send you to my guy. |
