Well I did pay alot of money for this, but I like the fact that it's an original GM offered option. I think the knob and emblem looks so nice and that alone was about 50% of my decision. Yes, I could have bought an aftermarket hurst or mgw or any of the other shifters that are available, but I just like this one. That is why I think people mod there cars different than other people. It's what you like and what makes yourself happy. I paid alot more than the 500-800 that people on this site have said it's worth, but I guess here in Canada parts are more. I even bought it at a GM dealership where a good friend of mine is the parts manager.

I thought about this at first but i am so glad i bought a aftermarket hurst. This thing is double the price with half the reduction? Plus all you get is a little emblem on the side of a stock knob?

This is why many of us like it. When I first ordered my car back in Oct. of 08, the Hurst shifter was part of my order, but it never made it to production. Now that it is available, I may be getting it put in.

So what's the status of the install? Did you or are you going to do it yourself or have the dealer do it?
Thanks Brian

Its not installed yet. Going to have the dealer do it probably on Wednesday. The car is 4 hours away from my home and I'm not bringing it till the snow goes away. I'm going up Wednesday to look at it cause they just finished painting the rally stripes. I'll post some pictures when it's done. Can't wait till spring!!!

Resurrecting old thread. Just bought an '11 with factory KAE Hurst shifter (late 5/11 build, so shifter was installed at Oshawa).
Do you guys who kept these notice the knob roates a bit in your hand vs. staying straight? (i.e. yaw axis knob twist/rotation). Took the thing off and noted the shaft was slotted for a knob key, but the key on the knob is smaller than the slot that keeps it from over-rotating on the shifter shaft, but still rotates/twists a bit nonetheless. I took the knob off the shaft and added some black electrical tape to take up some of the play between the knob and shaft so it would stay firmly on the shaft, but it still rotates/twists a bit (yaw axis). Maybe by design for the slab sided shifter knob? Also, curious - what did the RPO KAE $ run as a factory option? |

Funny you would ask after all this time.
The original sticker price was $380 for factory Hurst shifter on 2010. My car was an early order from October of 2008 and it had that option selected. The car build was put on hold because the shifter option was not ready for production so the other choice was to pull that option off the order so the car could be built. I purchased a lightly used take-off Hurst later and installed it myself but used a MGW Race knob because I dislike the big baseball that comes from the factory. Best of both worlds. This one is retained by a set screw and feels great in your hand. The early factory shift knobs were press fit so yours should not spin at all. If you can't smack it down tight by hand, something is wrong. The knob may be damaged/loose. |
