Painting the Camaro Brake Calipers

Started painting the calipers last night. Got the front two done and working on the back two today. Ill post more pics when they're finished. Look pretty good so far, Wish i had a Brembo stencil though, i think it would look good with a black Brembo painted on the front.

Are you using G2 or Dupli-Color. How many coats, I have been considering this but not sure yet, can't wait to see your finished.

Used duplicolor, and put 4-5 coats on each caliper depending on what it looked like. Finished result

I see your K&N oil filter hiding back there. Cool! I thought there was an etched Brembo logo on the 2SS. Maybe it was not etched. Did you just paint over the logo? I usually use red G2 paint on my cars, but wasn't sure about covering up the Brembo logos on this one.

I never realized. That's sweet! I even came across some metallic silver ones to go on red paint for my SIM. Thanks for giving me a time consuming mod for my future car. After my last two maskings and G2 painting, I said I would never do it again. I'm too much of a perfectionist for things like this. Becomes an entire day event to do the front and the backs with two coats of paint. Thanks for the info though. I will have to look at the stock calipers up close an personal on my SIM before I make the choice.

Soooo did the actual process of doing this require you to take the calipers completely off ?

never painted my calipers before, always taken them off and had em powder coated.

Some paint without dismantling anything. I've painted them while only removing the brakes and clips. So only the two rear caliper bolts needed to be removed to remove the brake pads. I then clean what I can with wet paper towels then the G2 paint comes with a brake cleaner spray can which helps the paint adhere. I've had to mask everywhere around where I wanted to paint including the rotor area that is near so I didn't risk getting paint in unwanted areas. One thing I have learned is to not paint the inside of the caliper where the brake pads fit in. I did that the first time then had to dismantle the pads, scrape the paint out of those areas because my pads would not slide back and forth like they needed too.

Oh, I forgot to mention for your question, I laid the caliper part with attached brake line on a tall upside down bucket with newspaper under it and on the floor. I do it extreme - the masking and unmasking is the time consuming part. I've always done red, but now I'm thinking about silver with black decals for my SIM. It won't be as noticeable, but again, I need to get my ordered car in to see it in person and figure it out. By the way, the G2 paint kit also comes with a brush. The brush on paint is designed for calipers and ends up to be a very smooth rubber like coating. It does not show brush marks, but dries smooth. I've had a problem after a couple of years with a couple of chips out of my red paint. That sucks. I didn't want to by a new kit to match just to touch up so I put an entire new coat on them. I think eventually the chipping and cracking is inevitable which is why I still ponder doing it again. Can always scrape is all off a redo it every three years I guess.

I've looked a pictures and have decided not to paint my calipers on my SIM because I want it all silver and black with the GFX. If I had a black, white, or red camaro, I would definitely do it.

And the paint job on this thread looks nice. Might look more official by putting some black Brembo decals on them with that black paint.
