Conceal and carry people

Do you carry with one in the chamber? It seems like an obvious question to me, but there are others who disagree with my take.

I don't conceal carry, yet.

But when I do, the answer will be yes. The firearm is there for protection. It's not a very useful tool if I have to take that split second to have to rack the slide to be ready. The firearm will not come out of the holster unless:

A) I am getting ready to use it for self-defense, in which case it better be 100% ready

or

B) I am putting the handgun away when I get home, and even then I'm not entirely certain I need to remove it from the holster...so, just keep the round chambered...

Yes, absolutely.

My current CC is a Sig P229 loaded with JHP's.

My prior carry was a Para Commander Expert and because it's a 1911 I had to carry cocked-n-locked.

not much point leaving it empty. most issues with semi autos stem from the mag. the first one is gonna go bang and i keep a second mag on me in case of mag issue. you dont have time to stop and fiddle with it if things go bad.

Always, I would hate to have to rack the slide in a high stress situation where I needed to use my weapon. Plus the element of surprise is a nice thing to have.

If things go tits up I do not want to have to think.."Ok...gotta charge the weapon"

Have carried a .38 for years. Old school, dependable, accurate, always ready. Only have 5 shots to begin with!

Why would anyone have an emergency tool, not ready to go to work?

Midnight, Hurricane force winds, power just went out..... we need to put some fuel in the generator!!!! As Chris Rock would say, "That's just IGNANT"!

Most modern semi- autos (and revolvers) are pretty safe with one in the chamber... safeties, and failsafes in case it's dropped. I see no reason not to keep one in the launch tube.

Yeah but in the movies when you rack the slide people get scared so you'll never have to fire it.

Always.

It took me quite a long time to be comfortable with doing so though. I've been cc'ing for over two years now without an unintended discharge. I think what gave me the most confidence was constantly drilling into my head to "keep your finger off the trigger". I carry a Glock 26 and my trigger finger now instinctively finds the slide breakdown lever every time I handle it. This along with never handling the gun without taking a second or two to focus on what I'm doing before doing so. After all its not another cell phone
