Thanks. I have had this as a screen name since probably my early 20's and it just stuck for the last 20 years.
At what point will I need to upgrade to forged internals? Ive read 8-9 lbs is fine, much more then that and I should be doing pistons and rods, but then I have also read of guys with 20lbs of boost on a stock bottom end. The car is daily driven now but hopefully my VA stuff will work out in the near future and I can pay it off, buy a truck and start working on this through the winter. Has Whipple worked out the issues they were having or is it an ongoing issue? Thank you Mark Quote:

Joshinator99 or KingLT1 will be your expert on the Whipple, I never had one. My car runs 10 psi of boost, and strictly speaking it would be okay on the stock bottom end, especially since it's a flex fuel car now so I can run ethanol, but it would be close to the edge; when a manufacturing defect in one of my factory GM heads reared its ugly... head (har-har), I decided to go for forged internals for extra safety and in case I want more power later. I find it hard to believe that the stock LT1 bottom end would have any longevity at 20 psi of boost. Ted discussed my car in detail on the dyno video, see here for more information on this package: https://www.facebook.com/jannettyrac...5032877481682/

Thanks. Are you running the stock injectors? I see both the- Whipple and Maggie reuse the LT1 injectors. I am getting a flex fuel tune this Friday. Which ever route I go I will eventually want more power just like every man and will need to upgrade my entire fuel system. Im currently building a wishlist/spreadsheet so I can get this project going sooner then later.
Side note. Where in East Tennessee are you? I grew up in the Church Hill, Kings Port and Orbank (all my dads side is still in Orbank/ SW Virginia and my sister is in Rogersville) and my Wife is from Nashville. We are currently Just North of Richmond. Quote:

You can see the most relevant mods in my signature and a more complete list at https://www.camaro6.com/forums/camar...=view&id=22819. Of course there are other small supporting mods such as LS3 front and rear main seal, new pushrods etc., but I'll tell you the truth, I'm "just an egg" and will only do simple stuff on my car, critical powertrain work is best done by professionals, of whom I'm definitely not one

Flex Fuel kit will require a tune if you want to use it. Armpad's right, the fuel system is the weak link in the LT1 setups. LT4 stuff has gotten expensive lately, so you may want to look at port injection..... running 8-10 PSI on stock bottom on E85 no issues, but anything more, suggest you look at building the bottom end for longevity.

The LT4 is definitely a stronger/ better built engine over the LT1. Your average build on the LT4 usually just involves the very basic stuff if you want to get more power out of it but the LT1 on the other hand when planned for higher than normal boost will usually require the internals within block to be built.
Blame the higher factory compression and weaker internals.

I'm really not sure if mine would make more power on Eth, but yours definitely will. Is your longblock stock?

No Problem Raceway is one of those sea level tracks I referred to above. I raced there in 2010 with the DA at -1000 ft.!!

On a side note. Took the car to the tuner tonight. Car made 438hp 414tq first pull, final numbers were 440hp/448tq on 93 and 460hp/469tq on E60. Considering the car only has a LT2 intake (200.00), CAI cold air which was on the car, speed engineering long tubes with a catted x pipe (600.00) and a Flex fuel kit (200.00). So I'm a grand in parts in and feel like it put down pretty good numbers especially in upper 90* temps. Not sure what it would have made right off the showroom floor but from what I've read 390s-410 seems to be the average on a manual car. This was on a dynojet dyno.

My Engine machinist for over 43 years who builds Nascar and Busch motors commented on how impressive the LT4 engine design is.
