Help - please? Exhaust Mods - Videos - high pitched whirr?

Thanks to everyone who has posted their video and sound clips after their exhaust mods. Special thanks to the stickey thread with the dictionary of links.

One question for the group.

Do any of you experience a high pitched background whirr with your new exhausts?

I dont know if it is just natural to the V6 engine or if it is only present during idle revs. I have listened to every system on this post - with 2 different sets of headphones - good quality - and nearly all mods have this high pitched whirr in the background when engine revs. Has anyone else noticed this? Could it be the CAIs? Alternator? It is evident only on the posts where the cars are sitting and engine is reved. You cannot notice on the posts where a drive by is shown. One post had a very minimal amount of the sound present - SUV2008. Again - no insults intended - I just want to figure out what this noise is. It may only be present during engine revs. Thanks in advance for your feedback. JFR1.

I have heard it too. Its not present on a factory exhaust - at least not mine. Could be a CAI but it doesnt sound like air rush. More of a whine - more noticeable after the throttle is lifted. Now you got me curious.

i read somewhere on this site that he has to do with the design of the side mirrors and the way the air flows around them...not sure if that is true or not..but its a thought

Its definately in the engine - and I have only heard it during a standing engine rev. Doesnt do at idle. Only on throttle increase and decrease. Its a whiney noise. I dont think it is a problem but I was just trying to make sure it was not the result of an exhaust mod - so I would not choose the wrong exhaust. Even on closer listening, forum member SUV2008 has it. I dont think it is a problem.

I don't believe it has anything to do with the exhaust. I heard that noise when accelerating before i did anything to my car, and still hear it now.

Are you 100% stock? No exhaust mod, no CAI? I agree, its coming from engine - I just have not heard it on a stock model. I am adding an exhaust and CAI and just wanted to know if that is the culprit. Even so - no big deal as most of the time you are not going to be sitting still and revving engine up to 3000-4000 rpms. I have a week before my model comes in. I am going by a dealer today and going to check out a stock V6 and stock V8 to see what I find. Thanks for the input.

When I was 100% stock, I heard the whirr too when I was revving the engine in park/idle.

I believe its a characteristic of any engine with less than 8 cylinders. Not sure why it does it, but I have noticed that whirr in plenty of other 6 cylinders.

That was my hunch. High compression, DOHC is essentially a big motorcycle engine. I'll post what I find at dealer today. Thanks

Agreed. Same thing here. It may actually exist with V8's but the rest of the engine is loud enough to tune it out.

no, i currently have all the basic bolt-ons right now. I was saying that i heard that whine before, when the car was stock, and even now, with all the mods. I hear it when i'm accelerating in gear. I have not heard it while revving and not in gear sitting still.
