TT issue, White smoke

OK So i got a custom TT setup on my 12 SS.

Set to about 10lb. its not alot. My vac is setup to vent. Working on a closed system maybe.

When i get on it hard it looks like i am getting blow by and some oil comes out of the vac lines. OK i expect this but not as much as its doing now. So what happens now is i get tons ( and i mean a lot) of white smoke out the exhaust. I pull over and let run for 10-15 and its slows down and it stops and all is good. This happen two times already couple weeks apart. just strange. one thing i did do each time was reset the computer right after it happen. First time i thought it was that. because it stopped 10 mins after i did it.

I checked all the sparks last week they look normal and OK no oil or anything strange. I checked compression and they all looked ok.
by the way not easy to check this with downpipes and stuff. pain in the ass. need to remove downpipes on each side to get to #7 and #8 :-(

I am doing a leak down test now. #1 and #3 are OK will check others soon. Oil and water look ok and normal levels.

dont know if its Oil, water or tune issue. but i guess i need to complete the leak down on the rest to be 100%

Here is my FB page with everything on it.

oil comes out of what vac lines ? Very non descriptive.

You also dont mention what sort of breather system you're running ?

White smoke would typically be water/steam...so is it really white ? How does it smell ?

As for plug access...there's a lot to be said for AGP.

Breather system.

Driver side on cover and valley ports is just open. Almost nothing comes out of this.

Port on passenger-side goes to a old catch can and vented.

Yes, I know it not the best setup and I am looking for a closed system. Just got issue with full time vac since I don’t have filters yet.

And yes it white so if it’s water got to be a head Gasket. So the leak test should see this right? How does leak only under boost?

The breather system are not vac lines.

There is nothing wrong with a vent to atmos breather as long as lines are of decent size and there is proper oil/air separation.

And for clarity, are you saying this white smoke was from your exhaust or these breather lines ?

And if you're saying this is under load etc...was this on a dyno, or how are you seeing this under the hood if it is the breathers ?

And any sealing issues are more likely to show under load, vs no load....for obvious reasons.
If there were HG issues then I would expect more obvious symptoms, but you arent really indicating any ?

TT issue, White smoke

When I had the issue the smoke was out the exhaust pipes in back.

The breather port to air also had smoke at same time. But it was very light.

After 10-15 mins of running it slows down and stops and goes away.

This happen 2 times now on the road when I got on it hard. Y the time I get home from slow drive it’s little smoke unless I rev it hard and after it shows. Then little time later it’s gone and no smoke

If I just drive normal or little boost its ok and runs good.

I will try not to get on it to hard until I find the issue. :-(

One thing it did noticed was the driver breather port on cover had yellow oil. It was not much was when I put my finger on it this if what I seen. Looks like some water? Or just oil with air in it. But the oil on dipstick looks good

I will get all the ports into a catch can and breather for now so oil is not going all over

Also if I got oil sprayed in eng Bay and oil and oil smoke got sucked up in the turbo intakes. Would that cause the tune to go crazy and have smoke out exhausted?

Each time this happen I didn’t have air filters. Used turbo guards.

It is quite normal to get some condensation in a catch can.....one of the reasons you have one.

Causes:
1. Blow-by
2. Inadequate catch-can setup

I'm going to go with #1.

You didn't mention SBE or headwork. General information like that helps.

TT issue, White smoke

Remember it’s two issues one is breather setup. Working on this now. Need to add a 3/8’s vacuum tap into intake for catch can. And then in into turbo filters for full time vac.

And other is a lot of white smoke coming out of Exhaust after going into high boost. Then it goes away after little time. This has happen 2 times now.

Its a SBE and heads have just springs and rocker clips upgrades that was done sometime ago with cam upgrade.

Something else to note: when it had a lot of white smoke it was very hard to start the eng. like the starter was straining. After this all went away it was back to normal.

And I don’t recall the water temp over normal.

Unless you're logging water temp....waste of time.

So far other than some smoke....you havent said it is hot, or using/losing water, or anything that would suggest a head gasket or other problem.

By hard to start, do you mean turning over for 5, 10, 30, 60 seconds ? Or what ? Was it just once, is is this regular ?

Have you done a pressure test on the cooling system or a compression test ?

How do the plugs look ?

How long has it been doing this, and how long did it run fine beforehand ?
