lets talk headers

Im investing in headers and exhaust. I know that SLP makes the best fitting parts for the 4th gen. Is it really worth saving up the 1000+ dollars that slp headers cost or is there another setup thats just as good and cheaper...i.e. pacesetter??? and will bolt up just as easy!

headers

ive got hooker long tubes a hooker offroad y-pipe and slp cat back on my 99 z-28 it sounds and performs awesome. ive had that setup on for about a year and have had no problems and no header leaks. it wasnt real hard to install i did it by myself in about day on jackstands in my garage. i would definitley go long tubes they sound great and make good power. anyway good luck .

for the price, coated pacesetters are the best. after that its a toss up, whatever you can get for cheaper is going to be your best bet. they all do the same thing, tho they will all argue they are better than the competition (which might be true by .000002 hp)

Im running Hooker Super LTs on my car as well, the one thing i liked about them was that i didnt have to disconnect my steering knuckle to install them. the #1 exhaust has a slip fitting and is not attached to the mounting bracket with the rest of the exhaust on that side, so you can install them easier.

I was hoping to get the ceramic coated pacesetter LT's as my next mod with the off road Y. Do you know are these a pain in the ... to install or about how long it would take? Would it still pass emissions or will I have to do a swap every 3 years?:(

well, you will need to figure out a way to run cats on your car. if you know someone well who does the testing, you might get a case of beer before you go. but the ORY deletes the catylitic converters. while ive seen some people pass with no cats, most places will fail you on the visual insp for not having cats. what you can do is fab up some high flow cats in the y-pipe, basically knocking out a section of the y pipe and welding a cat in its place. but you will have to check with your local emissions testing place about them. tho if you only have to test once every 3 years, might be worth it to just keep your stock setup in the garage and swap out for a month. lol

as for the install, they can be a pain in the a$$, but if youve got a weekend and a couple friends and a handful of tools, you can do it.

as for an install guide... this is for an LT1, but the same principals apply
