Ford used to send out (free of charge) a special certificate to SVT Cobra Mustang purchasers each year. Besides the serial number of your specific car, there would be information regarding what number yours was out of how many Cobras were built that year. To do so they had to wait until the year's production was completed and final build figures were known. With the popularity of the Shelby GT500s (and many people willing to pay over sticker for them) Ford saw an opportunity to make some more money and now you don't get the certificate unless you go out of your way to order it and pay $45 extra for it. Maybe 2012 ZL1 owners are starting to get their certificates now because GM is building 2013 ZL1s and final numbers are in for the 2012 model year?
