Stop those door dings....
I have a two car garage and one of my previous cars eventually ended up getting minor door dings from my daily driver. I decided to throw something together that was simple, cheap, looked pretty good and you wouldnt trip over. Put some rebar inside the lower section to keep it stable. Made this about two years ago and it works great.....

Isn't easier just to be careful when opening your door?

Good idea...but not "idiot-proof"...lol...I'd drive off in the Camaro, and forget to move that thing out of the way first!...lol...then what do you have?...lol

Thanks for your wonderfull insight! The car/cars that i was referring to were a Camaro that i had for TWENTY years and a Buick GN that i had for about FIFTEEN years.....does not matter how carefull you are you will eventually get minor dings not to mention both cars survived a wife and girlfriends durring that time who were not as OCD as me. You keep two cars for over fifteen years and get back to me.

Nice looking contraption, but why not wrap the pipe insulation on the vertical pieces as well?

Is it possible that you might tend to be more careless with your doors since you know no damage will occur if you accidentally let a door go?
And since you are "conditioned" to be less careful with your doors, are you more likely to be careless with a door when out in public? |

You could but there is really no need. The foam on the horizontal pieces hit the car and prevent the PVC legs from rubbing against the car and other car doors are convex and only hit along the areas i have the foam. I did not glue the one side so the foam can be easily replaced. If you have not already noticed they are pool noodles.

Don't know about you guys, but my "2" car-garage is a joke as far as actually putting two cars in it. I decided to just park the Camaro in the "middle" and I can open the doors all the way without hitting anything.
OP...good idea if I did two cars...thanks...but I'm spoiled with just one for now! |
