I am all for Lost Wages if they happen to go out west perfect facilities just need to make sure we avoid (June-August, and late October-Early November because of SEMA as hotel rooms are jacked up and most places are sold out.

We would have no problem getting hotel rooms most of the strip hotels have large parking garages I am sure we could get one hotel to be the host hotel (My vote is the Wynn Las Vegas

I like how you pick the most expensive hotel in Vegas,

How about the Hooters hotel? It's cheap and right next to the MGM grand on the strip...(giving that reason is just like saying "the wings are good" as a reason for going to Hooters)

I"ve heard all these arguments for decades with conventions that don't even involve a car. The best solution after years of trial and error was to have a schedual that let the East attend one year and the West the next. Some may be able to do both.

That way you have lots of notice to plan for vacation time and your budget.

GTO clubs HAVE ALL BEEN THERE . Learn from their experience. Others have done East /West/ Central ............. then start over again. That gives the people who do all the hard work a rest so they do not burn out. It might be fun once or twice but the 3rd time it becomes too much like work.

Three Daze in May sound good to me.

I have raced at the Heartland Topeka dragstrip several times and if I remember correctly the dragstip is actually a portion of the road course just like Sonoma Ca.

As far as a large speedway like Kansas, Texas, Atlanta, Talladega I am pretty sure they will not allow anyone to go fast on the speedway due to liabilities. I am a member of GoodGuys Rods & Custom and they hold a few car shows at the speedways and you actually get the chance to do 3 parade laps around with about 20-30 other cars with a pacecar in the lead doing 65-70mph. I expect that is all you will get out of any speedway.

SGMP & Valdosta has my vote.

How about Indianapolis? O'Reilly Raceway Park is there...also a little oval track called the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

GA was nice...no real complaints. The only kink I really see is having the event 30 miles from the host city can be confusing. Also if the event gets bigger, I don't think the Holiday Inn can handle all the cars. I know once the first two hotels were booked, I ended up staying 2 miles away, which kinda seperated us.

I have been to shows in Bowling Green at the Vette museum and found that area great for a show like this. There was an F-body show in Sepetember there for several years that we went to. The Museum has tons of room, and is a great get together place. You can have seminars in the conference rooms, check out the Vettes, shop at the store, and tour the Corvette factory. There also are a lot of hotels in area because of all the car shows the museum has. As for a track, Beechbend raceway park is right there (also has drag strip and oval). Also another advantage is the Museum has these shows all year, and can handle a lot of the actual organizing and logistics.

In reality it will be a catch 22. If the same people organize it, it will be easiest to use the same place over again..especially if they are close to that area. If you move it every year, then it is like starting over, and the logistics are always an unknown beast. However if you keep it at the same place, there is also the chance that the location becomes stale. To get people to drive 10+ hours like many did will require something different every year.

my rates for the Wynn are only 89.00 per night Sun-Sat then again we are regulars

Other choices Mirage, Treasure Island, Monte Carlo, Mandalay Bay, ect.... The H(O)(O)TERS hotel and Casino no thanks I would rather stay at the Sahara Hotel & Casino.

I would be willing to drive to Texas as well

If we could book it for $89/night I'd be in like sin....but I thought the prices were like 3 times that...I'm probably wrong though.

It makes sense to me to have the Fest located at three (maybe four) agreed upon locations around the country that rotate.

And since the Valdosta meet was such a huge success, I imagine that location is on lock from now on for the East Coast meet location, unless someone can come up with an extremely compelling reason to move it.

For the Central meet, it sounds like somewhere in Texas would make sense. Would be awesome if we could somehow use the Texas Motor Speedway just outside Fort Worth. I may be biased towards that, but I imagine if Kansas or other central state shows some awesome venues, that would make sense as well.

For the West Coast meet, it sounds like Vegas is a big hit. Maybe somewhere in Cali?

The big question then becomes, what order should the meets take place in? East (this year), Central (2011), West (2012), or do we do east, west, central?

I think the first vote should be polling where the next general vicinty ought to take place (central or west) and then based upon that we start weeding out some potential locations.

That's just my $0.02

Keep the discussion going!

We are really still reeling from the success of the first event...

I am talking to our C5F Sponsors, staff, SGMP, GM and our members on what the best way forward is....

Just some thoughts so you guys know where our heads are at.

Of course SGMP will remain the top contender for anything we do on the east coast.

Second. If you look at our membership, CA, AZ and NV have enough members alone to have a bigger showing than what we did this year. Just food for thought.

However, West coast events are usually much more expensive.

I do think we should at least have a west one year and East another year. We have been asked to consider two events a year but I have concerns that we may get sponsor limited and that it will be difficult to have GM attend both events. Obviously getting GM at any events is never a guarantee but two a year will make that more challenging.

So at this point I can only reasonably predict two things.

In the next year or so we will have an event that our west coast members can more easily attend.

I fully expect to be back at Valdosta Ga for future C5F's

It's way to early to say this is concrete but that is where our heads are at now. FWIW

My preference would be Vegas. I would be willing to drive to Texas or Kansas, but Georgia is 45 hours drive each way. As said before, there is no way to make this happen on an annual basis and keep everyone happy with the location each year. Rotating the location every year between East and West locations makes a lot of sense to me.

I am just a 40 min drive to the host hotel in Valdosta, and it was nice being so close. But I would be willing to drive half way across the country if it meant more on the West Coast would come. I don't like the idea of having two different meets. As said before, not everyone is going to be happy w/ the location of the next meet, but I'm sure a happy medium can be found to accommodate more members. I would be willing to drive almost anywhere to have another weekend like this past one. For me, it was just that fun!!!
