Crank seal leak after damper install
How many have had the front crank seal leak after the ATI super damper install? I have to pull the damper back off this weekend to replace the seal. I used the thin washer off the stock unit and made sure the new damper was fully seated and torqued to 235 ft lbs. but it still leaks behind the damper. Any extra info I might use when I replace the seal and re install the damper?

make sure to lightly lube the rubber seal so the contact area at the dampener isn't totally dry. A dry seal could have caused the issue you are describing or just bad luck. Replace the front seal in the cover and try again with a light coating of motor oil, and you should have no problems.

http://www.amazon.com/Lucas-Oil-1053...lithium+grease You need to apply a thin layer of this non hardening sealant on the outside of the seal before you press it in. Then coat the harmonic balancer with just a thin layer of Lithium Grease the portion that slides into to the seal. |

I seem to be having this same issue after my install. Look under the following link;
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=449321 I did not lube the damper before installing it. |

They leak between the outer edge of the seal and the timing cover. I like to put some non hardening Peramtex 2 on a thin layer on the outer edge of the seal before pressing it in the timing cover.
https://www.permatex.com/products/ga...-no-2-sealant/ Also I like to use some Lithium Grease on the part of the Damper that slides into the timing cover. This lubricates the seal. |
