HELP! Engine misfire after cam install
Hello all!
Ive been reading these forms for a while now...and just became a member. Therefore, this is my first post and i can really use some guidance with my 2010 camaro ss. I just finished doing the cam install in my ls3. I need some help The cam is texas speed & performance, stage 2, 229/244 .629"/.615" . included with the cam I also installed a new oil pump, timing chain and sprocket, lifters, push rods, valve springs, rockerarm trunion upgrade, got the heads cnc ported, spark plugs, and long tube headers. When i went to start the motor for the first time, it was misfiring a lot through the exhaust. it sounds like gun shots. The check engine light came on with code P0300 (multiple cylinder misfire) after this happened, i removed all the spark plugs and found them to all be soiled except for cylinder # 1 & 5. I checked compression on all of the cylinders, they were all at 190 psi except for 1 &5, they were at 170 psi. after doing that i checked for spark on all coils, spark plugs, and spark plug wires. All was good there. Fuel injectors were also good, because i made sure they all sprayed doing the cam install. I am not sure if this is happening because of push rod length, or if the valves are not seating correctly. Or if the car just needs a tune to fix the problem. I read some forums on here about the misfire issue, but most of them talked about the check engine code. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated |

Your coil plug harness is probably plugged in upside down. This seems to be a easy mistake after cam install. Hopefully your timing is set correctly and its a easy unplug and flip plug and connect it again.

When I did my cam install on my truck about 5-6 years back I had a similar issues. Turned out I had a bad spring and lifter over #4. Changed out the BeeHives to Comps dual spring .660 lift and lifters and haven’t had an issue since

does the color of the wires in the coil harness indicate what plug goes to what coil? for example the purple blue green and red wires. im asking bc how would i know if i had the harness on backwards or on the wrong side?

Same harness but can be put on backwards... It happens.
Also, a tune should be updated to accommodate the new cam/headers... -Don

I have the updated coil harness so colors are different. Don’t have the old one to compare. May be that simple...
I think pink, red, brown, black are for #1 and #2 -Don

Zl1dad is the man!! That was exactly what the problem is. Had the harness plugged in backwards. Flippedt it around and she runs great. Gotta get the tune now. One small issue however was the anti freeze wasn’t flowing through the block. When I was doing all the work I drained the block and after just filled up the radiator. Is there a bleeder on the block to bleed out the air to allow the anti to flow? Or is there another method to use to do this? Thanks again for all the help
