GM was a mess. A lot of bad bad bad decisions. Now they have come home to roost. This Bankruptcy is basically going to clean house, and try to GM back on its feet. Even more than ford, GM represent what American industry stands for.

The US will not let GM fail They will come out better in the end. Will they still make SS or Vettes ? That remains to be seen.

It will NEVER be completely private again. The UAW now owns a huge chunk. Even if the gov sells it's piece that will leave the UAW as the largest single shareholder and therefore the 800 lb gorilla in determining the direction of the company. Why would a union sell it's management to someone else? This is the union's dream.

They can now negotiate with themselves over their contracts ....

How about 'CUSTOMER SERVICE'.
They could easily get the ball rolling by providing an accurate communication method to those customers who've chosen to do business with them - like all those that have deposits on this site and have received little no valuable or accurate responses regarding their order.

In such businesses, customer loyalty carries so much weight toward positive sales and thus new business. There is a much higher percentage of repeat customers from good service, as opposed to trying to win new customers with promises. Prove you'll take of what you have and the reputation will spread to others considering looking at your products.

Offer a good product that gains respect. Loyalty and respect will not only keep them coming back, but grow in popularity. The Honda Accord, when first came out, was a little car in an era of larger cars that might still compete in MPG. Honda offered a superior product and customers were taken care of. Their reputation today is off the charts.

Not this company! Looking at this whole Camaro buying process, there has been ZERO effort on the part of GM to recognize customer loyalty.

Does anyone know how that might work from a legal perspective? You'd think there would be some kind of anti-trust law that would prevent a union from negotiating a contract with... well.. itself.

I think You will see service change, along with QC. Makes Business sense the way they look at it, before Chapter 11, 8000 delivered after Chapter 11 50000. Is it just me or do the dealerships act like they are doing you a favor by selling this car to us.

The shares are not directly controlled by the UAW the shares will be controlled by their health trust that is supposed to be independent from the UAW.
Is it far enough removed to prevent a problem?? I dont know

People are bombarded everyday with new things to worry about. Ask that same question a couple of months from now and most won't even remember/know GM went through BK.

bingo. and this is the part i never hear in the mainstream media.
i respect the rules here, no partisan politics, but this rule was made before the government owned our beloved company. and the events leading up to this travesty are most certainly partisan.

One thing that may become a issue is the stripes, they are being done outside the plant at a outside vendor, if I'm that vendor sitting on a bunch of work that I fear I may not get paid for...well work would stop till all the $$ issues were worked out..all in all not good !!! and with the government in charge..well we know they cannot run crap !!! Yes it will. The union will divest itself of the shares. This will be done in exchange for benefits and pensions.
