Always very sorry to read about this happening :-(
Is it me, or is it always model year 2011 or earlier but no later models? Cheers Michael PS: on a side note: window airbags made by Takata? >>> http://www.camaro5.com/forums/attach...chmentid=21769 |

Would installing a cage, and five point harness be sufficient enough of a safety upgrade so you could disable airbags. Anybody ever see that Quinton Tarantino movie "Death Proof"? There's better technology available, it's just not convenient enough. It does appear that TK Holdings (Takata subsidiary) manufactured the side airbag module. What happens if you have to perform some evasive maneuvers? Pop?

I can tell you personally that the side curtain air bags do not deploy when doing donuts or wagging the tail in a 2007 Z06. I cannot, however, verify that in my 2015 ZL1.

Are the seat airbags popping too or just the upper ones? Wondering because the convertible doesn't have the upper ones.

Just watched a video of a Stang convertible that had a seat deployment with no damage to the vehicle. Basically any "significant" force can trigger the sensor/module resulting in an accidental deployment. Furthermore your insurance company can do the moonwalk out of the claim unless you purchase accidental airbag deployment coverage. I'll have to research to see if I can add that coverage to my policy. It just doesn't make any sense to build a vehicle with so much power, and handling capabilities that can't even be used without the possibility of accidental deployment. I have had the misfortune of experiencing airbag deployment on more than one occasion. One time it was my fault, and the other time I was hit by an uninsured motorist. Not fun. Watch out for potholes, railroad tracks, and don't let anyone slam you doors.
