After reading all this, I think you're onto something with suspecting a bent pushrod, especially if you're buzzing it high. Another possibility is a bad lifter.

Got 3 out of 16 trunions swapped from comp to the Smith. Wow the comps are falling apart. Severe wear on the bottom. Metal dust all over them. Wear around the snap ring. Wear on load surface. Glad to be getting rid of them.

How's the swap going? Relatively easy? How are you doing it, tools wise?

I ordered that tool from Summit, first I'll use any excuse to buy tools and also I think it'll be easier. Not being 100% familiar with the job I'm hoping the tool still works for the Smith kit.

The Comp trunion upgrade is junk, for that matter, I've been staying away from anything Comp when I can, they, in my opinion, are having quality issues across the board with their products.

I would think it would work, all the components should be basically the same, just different manufacturers.

Super easy. A c-clamp, some sockets. No special tools.

A shop press is nice for doing the trunnions. Sockets make the perfect tool for popping and pressing. I have the BTR version of the comp upgrade. I ought to get those out of there when i replace springs it looks like...

So is it safe to say this is the right way to adjust the rockers?

That's pretty much it. Just little stuff to pay attention to. Don't torque on a lobe, make sure the bolt holes are clean and dry, put a little oil on everything before you close it up and run it.

Same process when you do the cam mostly. You will use an adjustable pushrod to set zero lash, then add somewhere around .075" for lifter preload to your measurement to figure out what length pushrods you need.

Do the rocker bolts need locktite or teflon sealer? I'm getting conflicting info.
