Brakes Failed contact NHTSA!!

I am staring a new thread on this so it stays in the light.

I have 2016 2SS and at the time the breaks failed its had 4500 miles.

I like several owners have had my breaks fail at low speeds. They start to pulsate and lose all breaking power.

I had to slow the car using my transmission.

Thank God I didn't hit any one

My DIC showed an error with the Hill Assist

Took car to dealer and they claimed there was no code.

I spoke to Chevy and they said that of the dealer said it was fine than it was good to go.

Several people have reported this and there may be a link to the vacuum booster but there seems to be no official policy from Chevy on this issue.

I have 455hp car that has unreliable brakes and I have been basically told I imagined it.

And a dealer that doesn't instill confidence that they know what they are doing.

As a general rule how many people have to die in accidents before GM fixes something?

Is it like 5-10 fatalities or more like 25-50??

How many Gen6 Camaros have crashed because of brake failure but the driver died so no one knows to look for the problem???

I have filed a complaint with the NHTSA.

If you have brake issues I encourage you to do the same.

Also my first time hearing such complaints. Very serious issue nevertheless.
Hope you get it taken care of.
Keep us posted on how it goes.

Your claims of failing brakes sounds odd, do u have a video or screenshot of the repair order ? Has it done it again ? Sounds really weird.

Brakes don't fail. Power assist may but you have manual brakes as. Back up.

Also brakes are valved in such a way that you have two systems, front left and rear right and then front right and rear left.

Losing power assist can be very disconcerting. Same as power steering. Feels almost like you have nothing when you do.

But to actually lose braking ability is a very odd and unique failure and then to regain normal function later.

Good luck.

Any system that can reduce pressure between the pedal and the pad can fail “open” resulting in reduced braking.

Googling “gm abs brakes fail” showed me three links with behavior sim8lar to the OP: vibration at low speed and no stopping. Basically the ABS activates on its own when it shouldn’t, and the car (or truck in that case) won’t stop.

Mine has done it. TWICE. At low speeds and it is EXACTLY as he describes. Power booster failure makes the pedal stiff and hard to press. Thats not what this is. The brake pedal goes TO THE FLOOR and then pulsates like crazy. Car will stop but it scares the hell out of you. Did it twice in the first two months I owned it and never did it again (have about 11K miles on it). Turned the car off and back on and it fixed it. Couldnt replicate so I didnt take it to the dealer as I know they have to replicate it. Tried to get it recorded but it never did it again after the 2nd time.

This is the first I have heard of this brake issue. Have you asked other Chevrolet dealerships in your area what they may have heard or know?

That aside, do not think it is a wise idea to make a claim about a mysterious brake issue & then a complaint about a Ford dealer giving you a lowball trade in offer all in the same night.

Power Brake Booster Replacement

The vacuum in the brake booster assembly is measured by the brake booster vacuum sensor.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies a 5 V reference and a low reference circuit to the brake booster vacuum sensor.

The vacuum sensor supplies a voltage signal in relation to the pressure in the brake booster to the ECM.

To address this condition, install a new power vacuum brake booster.

Do not replace the ECM or power brake booster vacuum sensor.

YMMV
