Exclamation my dealer is making the steering issue a nightmare

so im having issues with my Electronic Power Steering (EPS) when taking right turns at higher speeds the steering wheel starts to lock up and make a cracking noise. and my dealer as expected is trying to blame my mods on my steering issue! nice try! i told them by law you have to prove that this is causing the issue. they said their tech said the steering shaft was rubbing against my after market headers LOL (at this point im fuming because i did the install of my headers and my exhaust and i know for a fact this is BULL SH*T!) i said well i know for a fact your tech is lying. the steering shaft would rub all the time not just on certain turns at certain speeds. i am a tech i went to school for automotive and ive been turning wrenches on cars since im 16. i new this was a lie because i checked to make sure the steering shaft wasnt coming anywhere near the headers and guess what? its not! the damn headers were designed to not touch the steering shaft! its a problem in the steering box itself the chevy cobalts were famous for this same kind of problem with the EPS and the ZL1 has had similar problems with the EPS. ATLANTIC CHEVY is a bunch of lying crooks. im going there tomorrow on the war path. any suggestions on what i should do? should i bring it to a different dealer even tho i got the car from them? thanks in advance for any help guys/gals.

Have you raised hell yet? I started a thread about not rewarding these idiots with your money and time, and the best payback for bad service is terrible reviews on every website that you can give them 1 star or less.

My first thought is, if they aren't helpful now, will they ever be? Will you be able to trust them? If you don't trust them, do you want them working on your car? Just thoughts I have.

Good luck.

Go to a different dealership. I wouldn't trust them working on my camaro.

Time for a different dealer. Any Chevy dealer can help you out. Or as Gmpartsman said, you can even take it to any GM dealer. Same thing.

Believe it or not, the shaft will rub at certain times at certain speeds, depending on the lateral load on the car the engine position vs steering shaft position does change, and that is probably indeed the issue.

If it did it before headers why didn't you bring it in for repairs?

Next option is back to stock manifolds and exhaust.
i didnt bring it in sooner because the problem wasnt always happening. now i can replicate it on command. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130089 here is the SAME issue im having and this person had it in 2011 and this member had shorty headers.

better double check those headers. i had the exact same issue and checked my header clearance, there was a gap. After several hundred miles i noticed white marks on one of my header pipes. My shaft is white .... your symptoms are identical to my issues. noise and binding.

I also believe this is true but I also remember the cobalts having this issue. Some were even popping off while driving. However like someone mentioned before, check for rubbing marks.
