Called the NHRA AGAIN today and they confirmed again ''Unaltered' Means Body/Firewall. Just waiting on the email.

which is totally cool. There is a thread here somewhere about a NHRA tech session in Las Vegas where a "head guy" stated that unaltered means factory stock with no mods. He said even a cold air induction or tire swap would be altered according to him. This email will silence the crazy talk. My local tracks have been totally cool with the new rule and I never get harassed. Richmond dragway, Virginia Motorsports park, and Maryland International raceway are all on board with the 10.0@135 being the new cut off for a bar/cage.

My local track uses IHRA rules. I think the new rule is in their rulebook also.

I asked a similar question by email as well to the IHRA rep.:
""Mike, Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I am aware it is for test and tune type events only. Are engine modifications considered altered? There are a number of us locally who have made some minor changes to our engines and are running quicker than 11.50 ,slower that 9.99. The vehicles are still street legal and have no body or safety feature modifications. His response, That should be with-in the intent. "" Pretty vague answer for sure. I don't think they are really prepared to put anything in writing as to the definition of "unaltered". So looks like it will be the track officials who get to ultimately decide. |

Spoke with Dave today with regards to the roll bar rule for Street Legals and He understands the argument and has agreed to consult Glendora (NHRA) and set the policy on roll bars for MRP for 2014 Street Legals for 2008 and newer "un-altered cars" by NHRA definition.

I would not be at all surprised if midway through the season some sort of formal clarification is issued. Nobody knows what kind of Pandora's box just got opened until people start showing up with cars tweaked to different interpretations.
