Will you keep you key?

For whatever reason, my previous post asking if folks would keep their key in-light of the recalls, was deleted.. Here's attempt #2..

I'll be keeping my key.

P.S. admins, I'd like to know why my post was deleted.

Looks smart...

Would fit NICELY (function and appearance) in a Camaro.

AND NO KEY!!!!!

Hey GM....Maybe offer as part of the recall effort, designing and installing a proven system that works for those who want it..and to offset the slight cost of the recall?

I would pay $300 for such a system and GM could use the existing learning and programming already within the FOB.

Replace the key tumbler with a receiver....problem solved.
I would also pay extra if GM gave me the option.

Camaro Recall. 511k Camaros Recalled By GM

Here's the link.

https://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motora...134054747.html

Appears to be the same problem the Cobalt had.

Absolutely. All of my friends got new cars. ALL of them with Pushbutton start. Now I'm going backwards?

Has anyone confirmed with a dealership service department whether this will be absolutely mandatory if you take it in for any warranty/oilchange/maintenance work?

That insurance coverage question is also pretty important.

If this is absolutely mandated, I'll be leaving my key in the ignition all the time and using my fob for entry. Car thieves won't look twice at my LS anyway!

All Camaro Recall-NEW

General Motors announced a new recall of 512,000 Camaros, saying a flaw can switch the popular sports car off while it's being driven.

GM said that the problem is similar but not identical to the flawed ignition switch in 2.6 million Chevrolet Cobalts that has been tied to at least 13 deaths. In that recall, the ignition switch itself was faulty and needed to be replaced. In the case of the Camaro, the design of the ignition key and the attached fob makes it susceptible to being bumped out of the "run" position, similar to what happened with the recalled Cobalts.

But GM said the ignition switch does not need to be replaced in the Camaro. Instead it is issuing a new key and fob which aren't attached to each other.

GM (GM) said the problem with the Camaro has been traced to at least three accidents and four minor injuries, but no deaths or serious injuries.

I'm keeping mine too. My knee is no where near it. I don't get it. Companies like audi/vw have been using the same style key for a decade

Thanks, but I will keep my original key.

Workaround:
Stop steering with my knees and use my hands.

I've been turning the key off with my knee for the past six months. You mean it's not a RS feature?

it has nothing to do with the cobalt and a thread was already started and moved by Mods for this very same topic. This has to do with people who drive very close or have rather high knees that can hit the FOB and shut the engine off while driving

Fox News is getting ready to run the Camaro Recall story right now, tuned in to see what they're going to say. Just watched the Promo for the story so after the commercials hopefully they'll start off with it. Nope, commercials over and right into the World Cup.

Because the topic of discussion would be no different than what this thread has already become. I don't believe your thread was not deleted, it was merged with this one. If I add a poll to this, maybe that will help.

Be prepared for them not to get the story right. I'm waiting to hear it directly from GM (like the early link that was posted).

I contacted my dealer, and they said they got the announcement, but have no other details. Letters should start rolling out in the next week (according to them).

GM will have to pry my switchblade FOB from my cold dead hands. I’m just hoping it’s not right after I’ve totaled my car because I inadvertently kicked it with my knee. That would be really really embarrassing.
