To coat, or not to coat.

Curious of some additional opinions on coated headers. Trying to decide if the extra money is worth it or not.

Besides looking good, the coating helps keep underhood temperature down. I say it is worth it.

I'll be getting my Kooks in the next couple months and had the same question. Typically what does coating headers set you back?

Always coat your headers. I have tested headers over the years and the surface temp is 200 degrees lower Ceramic coated vs uncoated. Worth every penny and your headers stay looking nice also.

Just my o2

Hell yeah it's worth it! There was a thread that showed that the coating keeps them considerably cooler. Also, if you track your car, coating is a must.

I paid $200 more from Maryland Speed to have my Kooks coated from Jet Coat. He sends them over for coating and then Jet Coat ships them out to you. Worth the money in my opinion.

Thermal management is mission critical on the LS3. Have them coated inside and out.

My coated ARH set look virtually the same after 17 mo. Maybe just a tad duller...no discoloration. Plus the whole thermal thing....

I bought used dynatechs with gutted cats for $450 shipped and then had a local shop coat them for $200. He said if they ever have an issue he will recoat. I would not have been happy long term and my last few cars had the headers coated and love the no rust look.

Ceramic coating on a stainless steel header is a waist of money. Call any of the top 4 companies who MAKE the header and they will all tell you its not needed. If you talk to the vendors who SELL them they will tell you its a must.
