Heat three. Started pole position. Ended third. Let air out of tires so I went easy first lap and let the Panera and M3 through between turns 6-8

I have run drivers meetings while instructing over the years and the below has been part of my pre event speech for many years: #1 thing to remember at the track. You are not racing, you're not in heats and you are not in a position or did you place in a any position. You are attending a drivers improvement school or event that is not timed and the event has instructors. The above is very important to remember because it is true and if you ever have to talk with your insurance company after an on track incident (wrecked car) your wording can be the difference between insurance coverage and a denied claim. Matt,
You offer a really good point. Thanks for "refreshing" my memory. In all truth, HOD was very clear this was not a race. And I was contemplating changing my wording above where I said "started pole" and "ended third" before posting. One of the things I was having a hard time adjusting to was relaxing when someone was close in front or behind. That competitive spirit just kicks in. And it gives you a barometer of success (you've caught up to someone ahead of you) or failure (you're holding up the line). My coach did instruct me to ignore those events. Yet I got caught up in the excitement. Likewise, when I was in the field all alone I noticed I wasn't pushing myself as hard. But by the fifth session today I was able to let go and enjoy the private space and pushed myself and the car way more. I had this Porche PanAmera that wouldn't even let me get on the course and was on my tail every time. I waved him through each "heat" as I've been calling it or "on track session" per the time sheet at the top. Anyway, after letting him go the fourth "round" I ended up catching him and he couldn't get away. Then his coolant dumped all over the track and luckily we averted sliding off the track. --CRT |

I didn't record videos. This was my first time on a track so I wanted to use the money for a track coach. Totally worth it. I could see that I was making different lines than many of the other drivers.
