and since when did anyone trust an engineer? lol
Oil use goes down over time?????

Whatever your credentials are on this topic just went out the window with that statement.

Where did you learn about engines? University of American Samoa??

Having spent over 25 years with car & bike manufacturers on the corporate side, I can tell you that the owners manuals/printed mat’ls are heavily inspected and revised by the legal department and recommended operations are Intentionally broad. It’s just necessary with the litigious nature of our society these days. Do I believe that the break-in is invalid/ ridiculous? Absolutely not, but for most of us you don’t even have to worry about the break-in if you just behave with common sense and don’t do anything to the extreme for the first couple thousand miles.

Just my opinion.

There's nothing "common" about it, sadly. :(

I drove my 1Le from day one the way I’m gonna always drive it. Did a oil change at 2000km, and avoided hard gear jamming for the first bit. Car gets 30mpg doesn’t burn oil and performs the way it should be. Guys changing their diff oil and transmission oil at 1500 miles is honestly just a waste of money.

learned about them by breaking and rebuilding them. real life experience: you should try it.

the oil use is in reference to the first 10-15k miles, btw. i assumed that was understood, apparently not. and anyone who tells you a 0 mile engine is going to use less oil than a healthy 25k mile engine is pulling your chain.

In the context of this thread, the 2019 I bought was manufactured in December 2018 and sat between two dealerships for a while until I bought it. It looks like the dealership did an oil change a year later at 119 miles and I bought the car just shy of 400 miles. So much for babying it during the break-in period, oh well. It's hardly a guarantee you get to break-in a car all by yourself unless you order it from the factory. It's now at 1100. I've been driving it well with maybe 2 or 3 hard pulls since. I'm thinking of doing an oil change at 1500 and making that my first dealership visit. Any other fluids or adjustments I need to consider? I want to have the alignment double-checked in addition to the oil.

Doesn't "avoided hard gear jamming for the first bit" contradict "I drove my 1Le from day one the way I'm gonna always drive it."?

If you avoided doing something in the beginning (first bit) then how can it be the same from day one?

Got it. What's the particular reason? And how much will the dealer charge for it roughly?

Get any metal out of there from the break in of the gears... I did mine at 505 and 1,500 miles, both times there was some sludge on the magnetic drain plug...

I have no idea what a dealer would charge, I did mine myself... It takes about 1.2 qts of fluid so about $20 worth of fluid, guessing the dealer will charge at least $99, probably more like $119...
