Warming up Nitto drag radials in cooler weather

Hi all. Last weekend I made 5 runs at the dragstrip at a bracket race and I spun during three of those runs on the launch. It was upper 60s here in MI. My burnout was the same as throughout the summer where I didn't spin on the launch. My question is, with the cooler weather coming here in MI, should I heat the tires up more or should I lower the rear tire psi some? Or, should I do both???

The rubber compound in Nittos get really hard in cooler weather. Lots of hot/cold cycles also makes them harder. They also turn to mush if you overheat them. I'd suggest burning them down and swapping to MTs.

Thinks Vegas. I'll try to heat them up more as we approach cooler weather. I'll need new tires next spring so maybe I'll switch to the Mickeys!!!

I got about 15-20 runs from my Nitto dr's. I found the Nitto's like to be run hot. At $600 a set it's an expensive track day lol.

When the are close to $1000 per set it hurts even more.

They all need some heat, get some real smoke off them to make them work.

Js2fst/Pro Stock John, one thing that I did do "near the end of the season" last year was pull a tad farther out of the water box onto completely dry pavement and then burn them a little more to see more smoke. This seemed to help heat up the tires better and give me better grip off the line. To verify this statement, when we got into our fall mini series in Oct., I won the last race of the year. Never spun once

Can't see why people can't hook with nittos. Once I got my pressure and burn out duration locked in my car just hooked and took off at the light. No spin at all. And on the street they were flawless. Each tire has its preferred optimum operating parameters. You need to experiment and find where it is for your driving style.
