You know, people that build ZL1s that are in it for more than just flat out numbers have posted things before about overdriving the supercharger on these engines. Basically, once you get past a certain point (Which I believe was 2.5 + 9.1 or 8.6) the amount you spin past that gains very little, there's a multiplier of how much HP you gain per gain in Supercharger RPM. This is likely because of many things from efficiency of the blower and removal of timing for temps. If you can eliminate the latter with a few of the following HX/Interchiller/E85/Meth then you can help it gain a lot more. Now the efficiency is still a problem. I know one member who was very good with scientific measurements, tested the car with all different types of pulleys. And basically he came to the same conclusion that Jannetty has told me and us before in threads which is, spinning the blower hard doesn't mean much past a certain point. It's like having that little desk fan and hooking it to the crank pulley of a Chevy small block and running it at 7000 RPM. After a certain point, you can't feel the difference between 4000 RPM or 7000 RPM in that fan. This is the same thing that happens with the small blowers on these cars. Efficiency simply won't allow it to gain much more. Let's say when the car is bone stock, you put a 2.55" upper only on it. You may gain 15+ HP per 1000 supercharger RPM. Then you put on a 8.6" lower, now you pick up an average of 10 HP per 1000 RPM, ok still decent. Now though you put on a 10" lower, now you gain just 5 HP per 1000 RPM.
Now the opposite happens with heat. Remember that last progression? Well, once you push past a certain point and you put a 2.55" and a 9.55"/10", you may only pick up 10 HP vs the 9.1/ 8.6 and 2.55. Say you went from 650 to 660, you picked up 1.5% in HP, but you will pick up a lot more in IAT temps. See I'm not trying to diss the people/shops that may do this, I'm just SHOWING you the background to what is actually happening. It's not just as simple as pulleying the shit out of your supercharger to hit the HP numbers you want...I have no doubt that with a big cam to release the pressure and Meth/E85/HX upgrade, you COULD justify a 9.55" and 2.55", I just don't think that extra ~10-15 HP is worth it. |

But haven't actually done any of it to give information based on your own experience... Yet you try to "educate" the people who have and are sharing that experience for the benefit of others... Just saying, this site is full of that and it's beyond annoying. |

Only thing I can add is a better head and less compression. Would you then "justify" the larger pulleys? Some people talk about stuff and some people actually do it. Which one are you? |
