V8 engine question
All right folks..would love some feedback and opinions...
I am waiting with baited breath to upgrade my 11 lt2 / rs to a 2ss/rs. Yes I want all the goodies I already have. I am torn between the manual and auto. While at a dealership in Denver it was explained to me that they are two different engines. The automatic is a Cadillac engine with the active fuel management and 420 hp. The Manuel has the advertised 480hp. I want the power but haven't driven a Manuel since 2004 and that was a deisel...lol Input...comments....ideas...thoughts...thanks in advance |

Find a new dealership if this is what they told you.

Not sure where they got those hp numbers. For a 5th gen Camaro SS...the automatic has the L99 engine rated at 400 hp, and the manual has the LS3 motor rated at 426 hp.

So then that is clarified. ..is it worth it..The extra horsepower on the manual...and could a person relearn stick without killing that clutch?

Sounds like the salesperson was trying to impress you with their stupidity .Like Millatime84
stated ,find another dealer. Also tell us what dealer it was so our members can stay away. |

If you are torn between and want to feel more connected to the car get the manual. If you are an auto guy, stick with the auto. I guess what I am saying is go with gut instinct. Better yet test drive both, the manuals feel tight and notchy when new, but the loosen up after some time.

Do not buy the Camaro because of what v-8 engine it has,buy the car because you want an automatic or a stick.

Will find another dealer...it was Medved denver..and the senior sales mgr. Probably will try to stay closer to home just wanted a dealer that dealt with average people credit instead of AA+ which is what the Durango Chevy has banks for.
In response to earlier post...I qualify..I'm a women and drive an auto. Would love the stick but honestly afraid I'll kill it while I relearn as I really want and use the power. Thanks everyone for your responses |

It's sad to think that even in 2014, after literally decades upon decades of Corporate GM engines, some sales manager still tries to tell a fib about the source of an engine.

Start at this page (80201 zip). Select 2SS and just keep hitting the 'Next Step' button until you get to the page with the "Mechanical" section. Don't worry about skipping past any choices.
Click on the engine options to see torque and HP details. Your browser may need to allow pop-ups. Norm |

Buy what is more practical for you. Do you live in the city and have to deal with traffic often?
If yes, but you have a beast left leg that clutch for an average of 1.5 hours through stand still traffic; buy 6spd. If yes, but have weak left leg; don't buy |
