I have 20 percent oil life and i have 12000 miles on my car. I should need an oil change already right?

Personally, I would not go over 10K miles (or one year) with synthetic.

I'd guess that you've put a lot of easy highway miles on your car for the monitor to take you out that far...

Per GM warranty standards, you need to change your oil once yearly, or when the Oil Life Monitor (OLM) says you need to, whichever comes sooner.

Most people on here are too uncomfortable with the idea of going 10, 12k on a single oil change, so a lot of folks will recommend that you change it earlier, and everyone seems to have their voodoo stuff that they do in the first 5k, like changing the oil after the first 1,000 miles, etc. These ideas are a mix of old school thoughts and paranoia, but if it makes them feel comfortable to change their oil and other fluids more often, they are free to do so

Personally, I've in the habit of 5k changes, which is early according to the specs for these cars.

Even my dealers service department insists that I should do it every 5,000 miles. I follow the oil life monitor or 1 year which ever comes fist. But its your car, do what u think sb done.

Just changed ours two days ago. My wife drove it to work and back even when the OLM said 0%. This oil had 13,504 miles on it. Guess what? I didn't lose an ounce of sleep running the oil that long.

I use the Oil Monitor.....but typically change the oil when i get to 50%.....which is about 5k to 7.5K miles depending in the type of driving I have been doing.
