Question L99/LS3

Besides power output and A6 or M6 trans, what is the difference? Just a heads and cam package? Could a L99 be made into a LS3?

Not sure, the internals might be different due to the active fuel management.

lower compression in the l99 and different camshaft.

The L99 does respond very well to mods....just add some long-tubes and a CAI and you will have more power than a stock LS3 easily

LS3 Has 26 more baseline horsepower; yet an average of 50 hp more to the wheels than the automatics (L99). Ive noticed alot of people with the LS3 are dyno'ing around 360 WHP and with the L99 around 310 WHP. Mods such as ecu reflash will be more effective on the L99. The only difference between the L99 and LS3 is the L99 has less aggressive cam shafts and it ads the AFM (Active Fuel Management). Im going with the L99 because Im lazy and I like my knees . L99 is good for modding man. CAI/Headers/**Torque Converter/Tune and you'll have around 400whp on the L99 fun stuff

Ah torque converter, that's a term I've not heard of in a long while (long time manual driver). But isn't that more for drag racing or can that actually benefit you in more ways? Any suggestions on a Torque converter?

The L99's that are "normal" are dynoing around 320 rwhp (on average).

If the L99 was in a stick/manual Camaro (like the LS3 is) you could easily add 20 rwhp to that. (16% vs 20%)
So an L99 with a stick/manual would be putting down around 340 rwhp (on average).

The LS3's are dynoing around 360 rwhp (on average).

So there really isn't as big of a difference between the two motors as most people think.

And from what I've been seeing, the L99's torque numbers increase significantly with a tune.

Would the 3600 need a gear beef up? What would the difference be? They seem to cost the same.

no but it wouldn't hurt and performance wise you wont see a difference unless you put on some drag radials or slicks then you would need to beef up everything

I dont think it would be worth it to make it into a LS3. Too much money that could be used in better ways.
