Same here. 2011 since new, original tonneau cover with the clips and it's never come loose.

You're fine. Picked up mine in November last year. What you see in the mirror is just the material on that top piece being buffeted in the wind. I also have the not-so-cheap cover but only put it on for cruise-ins and shows.

I've heard it's not good to keep the top down as the fabric will become creased from being folded into the trunk and not being stretched out like when it's up. Whether that is true or not, I do not know.

Since the lower option models are sold without the tonneau cover, they are fine without it.

Sometimes I put mine on, sometimes not. Depends on the weather and distance. It's a PIA if you get stuck in a quick downpour and gotta pull over to take it off before putting the top up........believe me, I know!!!

I found a little thing about air flow. If you do not want to put the tonneau cover on, if you roll up the rear windows, it deflects the wind just enough to push it around the well where the top is sitting. It seems to move a lot less when I do that.
