Driveshaft
I recently snapped my oem driveshaft and I'm undecided on getting a one piece shaft, or two piece shaft. My car is daily driven and taken to the track once and a while. With that being said, I've looked on which driveshaft would benifit me better but they all vary. Anybody running on aftermarket driveshaft and why you chose that piece in particullar? Thanks in advance and hope to shed some light here.

I was headed to work and I took off a bit hard and as soon as my 2nd gear kicked in, the shaft broke. My car is making 650 to the wheels and I guess it happened from all the hard launches on the track.

I'm kind of surprised about this breaking also. I hit my stock unit pretty hard and never did damage it. I just upgraded because I needed a new driveshaft to fit the new rear..... I have a carbon one from DSS that Stephen mentioned above but it really has not been tested so I can't say for sure if it will be trouble free or not. They are supposed to be the best in Carbon shafts but there really is not much weight difference in a carbon shaft for the Camaro. Good luck.

I went with DSS 1 piece aluminum,,, its good to 1000 hp,,, and weighs 17lbs... I am putting 600 to the rear wheels , you will notice a instant improvement on drivability it is smooth... I highly recommend it !

I don't have the ZL1, but my SS is modified, pulls 633whp. I went with DSS carbon fiber since I'm M6 .... it'll flex bit reducing the shock of dumping the clutch. (as suggested via DSS)
I'm thinking I've been around 3000 miles now since its install No issues |

This may not apply to everyone here but this is my story with drive shafts.
On a 2002 HSV GTO making 620rwhp with a manual gear box i installed a gforce1320 carbon shaft, i broke it on the street on a hard launch. They were great and replaced it for me with another I then broke it at the track. After which point I spoke with a local shop who advised me about the reasons why we have 2 piece shafts from factory. So I then ordered a drive shaft shop 2 piece made of chromoly it was bullet proof and never broke. I will never use a single piece shaft on a car that is designed to have a 2 piece shaft, the ball joint, flex and upwards/downwards movement of a 2 piece has been built like that from factory for a reason. So my advise is buy a chromoly 2 piece shaft, you shouldn't break it and it's a replica of what you have in stock form just made of a stronger material. |
