The challenge was to develop a package that did not require changing the piston so it could be bolt on.

To get real power out of the high compression LS7 with a blower a cam change is a must and boosting over 6-7 psi can be catastrophic.

And that is definitly not a MYTH
Then same thing applies to ALL LS motors. To make "real power" you need to swap pistons. 6-7psi can make ~700rwhp and live a long long happy life. I know several LS7s with 800+ and 30k+ beaten miles on them.

The point is to not go crazy on PSI. Their is no reason to if you do the build right. With the stock Z/28 motor you can do a full build like mine without toughing the motor (pistons/etc) and run 718 whp and never go over 6 PSI. I do not know anyone that would complain about 700 whp for their Z. If you guys are happy running stock and doing 450 whp that is great! BUT, for me I require more HP to have fun with the Z/28 otherwise the car would never get driven. With the build we did to my car it is as reliable as can be and it truly made the car an absolute blast to drive. I honestly have a hard time deciding to take the Z out or my LP640 Lambo out. And when friends are over the house they always want to have me start the Z because it sounds so good (with the cam/exhaust).

And the build above is far from just holding on a supercharger

The Pistons / Rings on both LS3 and LS7s become a limiting factor as the cylinder pressures and heat increase, since neither are designed for boosted applications.

Both use cast pistons with a non boost friendly crown and ring land design.

With a safe tune, either can and have lived in boosted applications for a long time.

it's not rocket science to make good power on an ls7 and make it live. We have the only 9 sec stock bottom end ls7 in az making almost 700 rwhp and he has put probably 50 bottles through the thing, done multiple half mile events and won btw, plus playing on the street. Have yet to ever have an ls7 blow up on me and we have pushed them to 700 rwhp plenty of times. They are not as weak as people make them sound, also can't compare edelbrocks crap tune, they don't have a clue how to even do a driver demand table so whatever they say goes out the window imo.

Diff is Edelbrock and Lingenfelter are engineering a package that has to be reliable and that they can Warranty..

I've seen cracked blocks, melted pistons and other failures on LS7s SC builds. Maybe tuning was an issue, maybe they pushed too much boost. Lots of maybes.

However to CORRECTLY build an SC motor you need to lower CR and to maximize the SC efficiency you need to install a proper blower cam.

Here in the southwest you also have to consider heat sink on a roots or twinscrew blower.

Yes with a bolt on and on the dyno you can get good #s. Now on the street what are you really getting. Are the knock sensors pulling timing? If you data log you can see what's going on in the real world.

LS7 and LS3 motors respond extremely well to cam swaps. The reason is relatively simple. The stock cams are designed to meet emmison requirements. They are choked down on the exhaust side. The intake side is not as much of an issue.
