There is a hydroshield on the intake.

First you've mentioned it. If so, then water through the intake is not likely your problem. Good luck, let us know.

Good news, checked the fuses and the no.5 fuse was blown, preventing the engine from turning. Checked the spark plugs and let the engine run and everything is fine for now except a check engine light warning.

Some added details from the other guy working on it. We turned the engine over manually (socket and breaker bar) and it turned slowly but seemed OK. The starter still wouldn't engage. IBMV6 suggested checking the fuses again and we found that #5 ECM fuse looked fine but the meter doesn't lie. It was an "I told you so" moment because the fuse was just a wee, tiny, little bitty bit blown. Once replaced (there is a spare in the fuse box) it would only turn over slightly using the starter then then stop. The obvious conclusion was that it was hydro locked.
We removed the plugs and found two with water drops on them. Next, we tried it with starter and without plugs. It turned over just fine. Nothing shot out the plug holes so it apparently doesn't take much water to lock it up. Put it back together, crossed our fingers and started it up. A little hiccup on start but then it ran OK except check engine light was on. We did a test run and afterward found a few water drops in the oil cap so changed the oil. The oil looked normal (no milk shake) and it needed changing anyway. We'll run it by the dealer next week for the check engine light. It may recycle itself but if not, it needs a diagnostic check. For future reference - the car cannot go very slowly (<5 MPH) through an 8 inch or greater puddle without pulling water in through the intake. The hydroshield probably helps if you're going faster but much faster through an 8 inch puddle will likely cause other more dramatic problems. The car is a daily driver and we live in Florida where it's raining when it's not sunny. We've had the CAI on for about 10K miles with no issues whatsoever rain or shine. We'll probably go to a stock type CAI and chalk this one up to experience. |

I'd give it a couple days of running and see if the light goes out by itself. Most trouble codes take several drive cycles from a cold start to fully warmed up, without the problem present, to self clear the code and turn off the light. If it's not out by midweek, then I'd have it checked out.

Good news. We took the car to the dealer and explained what happened. Got it back late in the day. They said it had 26 codes so they did a reset as part of the $90 diagnostic fee. That apparently took care of it. We'll give it a few weeks, keep our fingers crossed and see if anything new pops up.
