Poor Man's GPS
I hated it being on the windshelid & falling off all the time, so came up with this permanent mounting by bending some brackets, this gps has an input for a antenna so I could get an antenna to improve reception although it is not that bad now,, may work on hiding the wires better later, maybe just cut some notches in the trim piece for the wires to run through, also now I can play music off of the GPS with a SD card and keep my phone in my pocket and not have to unlock it everytime I want to skip songs. I can put a spitter at the 3.5mm input so I can use my phone when I want for Podcasts. Last edited by CyberPunk223; 06-02-2013 at 01:25 PM. |

also while I'm here, here's my amp Mounting, used a black piece of pegboard from home deport so I could put lots of screws in to hold it to the seat, all wires are ran under the seat.

^^^ I don't think he is saying anything about the color just where it is at And as long as it is inside of making a hole and scraping the Paint just run it to - side of the batter

yep, that's my ground, people said not to run it to the battery, it could cause a fire, because the battery is a negative voltge, not a ground,,,, so I made sure to put it away from the battery,,
is there somethiign wrong with it? I think it's working okay, it's not long, it goes to the amp. Also I did not want to drill through the floor & chance hitting a fuel line, wire or something. |

There's a mount (for the Garmins and likely other brands) to hold the GPS above the radio...it attaches to the center vent. Just a thought...higher is better in my opinion.

The risk of fire comes from the + side of the batter and that why there is a fuse on it I have never seen or hard of a fire from the - side of the batter the fire would start because the + side or wire some how touch or Energized the frame of the car if this were to happen the + wire would heat up then catch fire and that is why you always have to put a fuse on The batter + side of the batter Also you would not ha e to drill anything just run wire
