Driving without a Hood?

I'm looking to pick up a hood from another member. He is about 400 miles from me, and I was thinking that the easiest way to get it here would be to drive down without a hood then install it there.

Can we drive without a hood? I know that the Info center says that your hood is open, but does that do anything?

Maybe take off the engine cover too? It's not really secured that well

Thanks!

Also if you have an exposed Cold Air Intake, you might want to put a factory box back on for the trip. Mileage will suffer due to more drag. But it is probably doable. Just won't be pretty until you get a hood back on.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to drive without a hood. It's their for safety reasons, if something blows, rod, oil, coolant, the hood keeps it from spewing up and out all around you and onto other cars while driving.

I have had a lot of customers drive to me w/o their hoods to get a new one installed. Not a single one has ever been pulled over for it. There are alot of street rods out there that drive w/o a hood so I dont think its illegal

Remember to remove the strut so it does not flip back. If your air filter is exposed you will have a problem. Otherwise your engine will be fine getting wet.

I would only be worried about rain. In addition to air filter concerns, there are a lot of electronics under that hood. I would just make sure the forcast is good before you leave. Worst case you just pull over if it starts to rain hard.Of course you could always duct tape a tarp to your fenders to seal it up!

As long as there is nothing loose that will fly away you'll be fine . There is no law against it as was stated before and rain shouldn't bother it either unless you have an open Air filter .
People do degrease and wash there engine bays . If your worried about it just keep an eye on the weather forecast .

OP is in NorCal. Don't think rain is a problem this time of year. Now if it were here in central NY, 2 days without rain is a drought.

I dont think it should be much of an issue, but watch out for rain if you have an open boxed intake.

Thanks everyone

Yeah I'm in Cali so i'm not worried about rain. I thought I read somewhere about not being able to shift into drive or something if your hood was open. I have a CAI intake so I should be good there.
