Anyone have instructions, links or video on how to replace the thermostat on a L99? Also having hard time finding the torque for the thermostat housing bolts

I can't help you with the torque for the bolts.

1. drain the coolant at radiator bottom drivers side has a valve. when done close valve.
2. unbolt thermostat housing.
3.swap thermostat
4. bolt housing back to water pump
5. fill with coolant and burp it. probably the longest step. really nice to have a large funnel for this step.

Did I miss anything?

Is it absolutely necessary to have to drain it? From the youtube videos i have found doesnt look like they drained it.

no but you will still lose enough coolant that you will still need to fill it.

Can I ask why you’re changing it? They are pretty resilient. Do you have mods that are causing a heating issue while driving?

fill the engine from the top hose! do no fill the radiator first because if you do you will spend a few days getting air bubbles out of the cooling system

Get a radiator funnel. I picked mine up after hanging out with my mechanic buddy years back.

No regrets

Vehicle seems to be overheating the first 15 minutes. Fans are on so thinking its the thermostat.

See this L99 thermostat replacement video below. Or you can find it from the link in my signature also. To help get the air out, fill the coolant from the top hoses and squeeze the bottom hose with the cap off to move trapped air out.
