6-speed manual guys, what fluid are you running?

What fluids are you guys using in your Aisin AY6? (and yes, I used the search function to no avail)

Aisin-Warner recommends GL-5 75w-90 gear oil:

Quote:
Manual Transmission Fluid
GL-5 SAE 75W-90

GM P/N 88862475 (Canadian P/N 88862476)
So I started looking around.
  • Torco states that it's excellent for use in transmissions.
  • Royal Purple seems to be a good choice, as it doesn't mention any conflicts or additives to this effect.
  • Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube has a Limited Slip additive that makes me hesitant.
  • Lucas recommends it for Limited Slip Differentials, but no comments on Transmissions.
  • Driven states that it's intended for Differentials, no word on transmissions.
  • Amsoil only offers Diesel-formulated Severe and Long Life gear oils.
  • Redline states: Not for use in most manual transmissions with synchronizers, as slipperiness may cause gear clash.

Edit: Also, here's some good information for the Aisin-Warner AY6:

Hey I was just reading my preferred customer literature.

Judging by the specs for the GL-5 though, it doesn't seem to be formulated in the same way as other high performance GL-5 alternatives. It seems to be geared (no pun intended) towards longevity and protection as opposed to performance.

I run the Royal Purple 75w-90. Here's a reply to an email I sent to them back in 2013. (I was looking at their "Synchromax" at the time. They steered me straight.) It's been running smooth ever since, but is still a little catchy when cold.

...

Good Afternoon,

According to the owner’s manual (page 11-13) of the 2013 Camaro Coupe the part number 88862475 is a GL-5 75W-90 fluid. So our Synchromax (part #01512, quart bottle) would not be the recommended fluid for your transmission. Synchromax is what we recommend for the Tremec 6-speed in the SS.

The Aisin 6-Speed only comes with the V-6 engine. We recommend Royal Purple Max Gear 75W-90 (part #01300, quart bottle) and it meets warranty requirements for this transmission.

Listed below is a link with more information about our Max Gear product.

Thank you for choosing Royal Purple, and have a great day!

I used to have the occasional grind/bind into second.

Brought it to the dealership, had them change the fluid with the stock stuff and I've never had another problem since.

Interesting, must have just been that the factory fill was dirty/contaminated.

You're creating conflicting information here. Redline is fine. You're seeing that on the one you use for the rear differential. The back of the bottle of the SAE 75W90 says that, as well as "Contains additive for limited-slip differentials" and "Recommended for API GL-5, GL-6 and MIL-L-2105E". That one is for use in the diff.

The other redline you can use in your tranny is the D4 ATF "automatic/manual transmission/transaxle fluid". That one carries no such warning. It complies with Dexron III as well as other specifications.

I'm not creating anything, that's straight from redline in regards to their 75w90. And considering our transmissions do already suffer from gear clash for some people, I feel like this is a pretty sensitive area.
