I wasn’t just GM. That was a federal mandate in 1974. The government backed off after only one year.

Yeah...I don't understand that one at all. They both go down the same assembly line and they are still going to be shipping those engines to the plant to put into the Equinox. How much can they really be saving here? Especially when you factor in the people that might just decide to pass altogether on the Terrain and the Terrain Denali since you can no longer get the much stronger engine.

To be upfront, we have the 1.5 in our 2018 Terrain SLT. It's not terrible. Drives really well actually and does fine for normal driving, but it is a bit gutless when trying to do anything aggressive such as passing.

The only thing I can come up with is that that particular version of the 2.0 is going away (I know they have a newer 2.0 being used on other platforms) and they only have a commitment to building so many so they had to pull it from the Terrain?

The only thing I can think of is that GM didn't want to ship 2.0Ts into Mexico anymore but can still send them to Canada. Terrain is only built in the San Luis Potosi plant.

Interesting...so is the Equinox built in two locations, or is it build elsewhere? I just assumed since they were the same platform, they'd be built in the same plant.

EDIT: Nevermind I looked it up. Says it is built in Canada, Mexico, and China. Dang.

Yes. China production is for China sales. Canadian and Mexican built are sold in North America.

So I just read that the 2.0 is also being pulled from the Equinox. Over again... Surprising! Hopefully this is just a strange year and they'll put the 2.0 LSY in there for the 2022 model year.

GMAuthority reported that the take rate on the 2.0T in Equinox/Terrain was like 7%. I can understand it not being worth even offering it at that point.

Yep. It's too expensive. I know it comes with other equipment besides just the engine but at $2,500 more than the 1.5, it's no surprise that people weren't buying it. It's what I would buy but most folks looking at Equinox are looking at value, not performance.

I’m getting the impression that GM is in the process of ending the LGE engines. With Equinox and Terrain dropping it, only Malibu and Camaro are using it now. Both at really low volume. Not enough to keep a line going. The LSY 2.0T that’s in XT4 / XT5 / CT4 / Acadia / Blazer is a different product family built in a different plant than the LGE. Question is, does that mean it will drop out of Camaro soon, too? Can’t imagine GM would do the development work required to put the LSY or 2.7T L3B in Camaro for 2021-23.

I'm still torn...leaning towards the I don't really like it opinion. In darker colors, and especially black I think it actually looks pretty decent. I even thought this when all we had was a few GM press release photos. But I still think it looks awkward on the medium to lighter colors. Just a big black mouth up there.

It doesn't move the needle, except the ZR2. It's a joke they left the headlights exactly the same from day 1 of intro. I'd like to see them all in person. Ranger is selling well. Let's hope they are taking this segment seriously and the successor is impressive.

I'm not a fan of the tailgate getting "CHEVROLET" stamped into it. Glad I got a 2020.
