200 pound weight loss?
So I'm thinking about stripping my car of some weight but before I drop to much money I gotta ask, how much would my performance be affected by losing around 200 pounds?

It'd increase by a bit. 100 pounds equals (roughly) a tenth in the quarter mile.

I dropped about 120 pounds last year.
She said "this car is your girlfriend now", and I agreed, we were both right. I didn't notice any increase in speed, but it sure is more quiet on the inside than it ever used to be....

There's an old saying: people shop HP but buy torque. Personally I feel that with the stock rear end ratio and the high weight, the SS could use another 50 ft/lbs starting at around 2500 rpm, and then the car would feel a whole lot different

What parts of the car would you consider stripping, or getting aftermarket parts for to eliminate weight?

Forged wheels and an aftermarket exhaust and lightweight battery would easily drop 100lbs off the car. The stock mufflers alone are like having lead weights tied to your ankles.
Ps. The washer fluid tank seemingly holds about 800 gallons of fluid so that has to friggin weigh a ton. 2 1/2 damn years and mine still has some original fluid in it and i use it a fair amount. Personally i think a fluid fairy comes and refills it in the night. |

Lets say your car weighs 4100 pounds. 200 pounds is about 4.78 percent. Losing that much weight will also theoretically reduce your 1/4 mile time by 4.78 percent. Same thing with 60' time, trap speed, and average lap speed. Also about 4.78 percent increase in LBS/HP ratio and 4.78 percent reduction in 60-0 brake distance.
Just kidding, sounds logical, but reality has a lot of variables and I really wouldn't know how to make a general prediction. But there must be tables out there of weight reduction gains with all else being equal for drag strip times and so on. It's probably not a linear thing and the formula will be complicated. Use this link to simplify your calculations. http://www.wallaceracing.com/Calculators.htm They probably have formulas that will proved a better approximation than I could ever figure out.
