It sounds like they are assuming it will have 460 hp because it does in the Corvette.
Chevy never actually says the engine will make 460 hp in the Camaro in the press release that this article refers to. |

Yep Car and Driver had the same thing. Acted like it was something new. There has been no official announcement yet.

440hp seems more reasonable, I would think.

Not likely though, shorty headers are going to negate any differences in exhaust (which I believe was the reason the LS3 in the 5th gen and C6 had a 4HP difference). Seems very unlikely HP will be any less than the LT1 is rated in the C7.

I would be ECSTATIC if the new Camaro came in at the Vette's HP rating.

Because SAE testing for one. The better question now, is what reason would there be to purposely detune the engine to protect the Corvette.

460 is exactly what I think it will come in at.

Even with 440ish HP and not the 460 range, isnt this car supposed to be a few hundred pounds lighter? That will make this car incredible to drive. As much as I love my 5th Gen, if all of that is true, I see a trade in happening after the first full model year.

Answer is in the question. Chevy has babied the Vette and their owners for decades. Only until the release of the Z/28 did they finally let the Camaro go. I see the 5th Gen Z/28 as a one-time exception and GM will rein the Camaro back to not be as powerful

Here we go with the "detuned to protect the flagship" thing again.... Ill tell yiu this, if they DO DELIBERERLY DETUNE this engine for the Camaro, I will buy a C7. Incidental powerloss due to intake/exhaust differences cannot be held against them.

What if those incidental losses were deliberate? It allows them to say they didn't purposely lower the rating of the motor while still doing so.
