car got hit by a board in the road f me

So I'm driving to work thursday and out of nowhere from underneath the car in front of me this board like a wood panel about 2' by 2' pops up and hits my car. I was going 70 and it smacked pretty hard. I got to work and checked it out and all I saw was some black substance that was rubbing off so I thought I dodged a bullet. But upon closer inspection while washing it today I noticed it did do some damage. The lower grill is seperated from the bumper on the passenger side. I just got home and as soon as I get some energy I'm going to go out there and see if it will snap back together. I haven't looked really closely but at a glance you can see the clips on the grill and I'm hoping that it just snaps back in. So the good news is there doesn't appear to be any paint damage. The possible bad news is I don't know if any plastic is broken. I suppose the silver lining is if it is broken I now have a reason to buy a different grill.

Yeah I saw a special about people getting impaled from highway debris. Consider yourself lucky.

That totally stinks. Nothing ticks me off more than crap left in the road or on the side of the road. I have seen video's of this before and have re taught myself to stay far away from the person in front of me. Also it helps keep the rock and paint chips to a minimum. I think about this everytime i'm behind someone. Thats why I bought an SS to keep in FRONT of everyone!

Call your insurance.
Happened to me a few years ago, and as a result the car was rolled into a 5 foot drainage ditch in WA. Everytime my back or neck hurts it is a reminder.

Wow. I got hit by a trash bag full of soda cans on I-26 the other day. Lucky it didn't even cause damage. Feel even more blessed now after seeing that.

I saw that video a while back. She didn't even make a peep when that thing came through the windshield. Even had the balls to keep the camera in hand and filming.

When I was a kid our family had a 69 Pontiac Catalina. One day I get in the passenger side and see a hole in the floorboard about the size of a half dollar. It was coming in at a 45 degree angle and was through several layers of metal. I asked my Dad what it was and he said he was driving on the freeway when he heard a loud sound that seemed to come from the car next to him. And then something whizzed past his head and bounced around the cabin. When he stopped to investigate he found a rock in the car.

I used to ride a motorcycle and always thought about that. If a rock could be kicked up and go through metal like a hot knife through butter what could it do to a person on a bike. I have since always been paranoid about debris being kicked up. It doesn't have to be big to do a lot of damage.
