Need some advice...

As you might know I am relatively new to the boards here as of June, thanks in part to picking up a Camaro SS 50.

Brand new, but it was sitting on the lot from June 2017 through end of May 2018.

Really starting to believe I might have made a huge error.

Looks like it sat outside for a year and there are water spots that can't come off, pretty much all the issues found in the warranty area, but today I dropped it off for them to handle some of these issues including replacing the convertible top.

I get an email from the service dept that there is a dent on the passenger side door. This is after they logged it in. I never saw a dent nor while I have owned this vehicle has it EVER been near another car for a dent to happen.

The car has all of 800 miles on it, 1/3 driving back and forth from LA to OC. It is garaged alone.

So the rep tells me there is a dent I never saw, no possible way it could have happened while I have owned it (it has never been parked where this could happen) and wants to get me an estimate to fix it.

And parts that were to be ordered under warranty for the car, back in early June, were not ordered (chipped 50 logo on steering wheel, etc.).

I am ready to throw my arms up in the air and simply sell this car. I am that disgusted at this point.

I have made it clear this could not have happened under my ownership, for all I know someone pulled up, hit it and now they want to shuffle this off on me.

ARGH!

Wow man, my advice to you is just chill out. None of these are the kinds of issues that would make me want to sell a car and give up. In fact, it's all relatively minor and the bulk of it (you buying a car that sat for a while with water spots) is really your own doing.

So, I advise that you sit back and think for a minute about how big of a deal this really is. It isn't causing cancer, won't give you a heart attack, and it will all eventually be fixed with some simple patience. Relax.

I would have asked the rep how he knew you never saw the dent. Then I'd answer for him while he's confused of how to answer, " because it was never there, right?!?" Well hopefully it's nothing too major and a dent removal guy can take care of it.

As for the water spots they will come out with polish and a microfiber.

I drop the car off today.

They log it in.

They did a walk around.

No mention of any dent.

They get me a loaner car.

From time of drop to time I leave with the loaner is over 30 minutes.

A few hours later I get an email with a picture saying there is a dent on the door.

I had looked the vehicle over this am before drop off, to see if there were any other issues I needed to point out as I need to get them handled in bulk due to the distance to get to them.

There was no dent.

Water spots. Think it is going to need an acid bath to get rid of them as the car has been detailed 2x and they will not go away.

This on top off all the other issues with this vehicle.

I have been down this path before, only with Pontiac.

The first year I owned my Trans Am it spent more time at the hapless dealer than in my possession.

Picked it up on a Saturday, as I was driving it home, all the electrical went out. They sent a flatbed on Monday and didn't see the car for 3 weeks.

While this situation is different, there is a laundry list of issues and no one to speak to as the turnover at this dealership is like nothing I have ever seen.

The water spots, it needs an acid bath to get rid of them. Car has been professionally detailed twice and they can't get them out.

It is the dent that is setting me over the edge (as well as parts that were to be ordered back in June that were never ordered). I was at the dealership over 30 minutes, 2 guys looked the car over (I had done the same this am), no mention of a dent until almost 2 hours later via email?

And they conveniently have a dent guy coming tomorrow?

True, it is not cancer or death, but I am pissed to no end.

If they did a walk around with you and signed off on the car's condition at check in, how can they deny it was while they had it? I would be going off my rocker. They certainly wouldnt get a dime for the repair.

I've never heard of anyone giving a car an acid bath. If polish don't work I GUARANTEE McGiuars ultimate compound and a microfiber WILL get them out.

My previous 5th gen which I bought used was covered in hard water spots. I bought the McGiuars Ultimate 3 step process which starts with the compound and they were all completely gone just after that first step.

I would go directly to the GM of the dealership and discuss these matters with him just as you did here, otherwise your justified frustration will just continue...then find another dealership!

Forget the acid bath, listen to ZR1Chris above.......however use an orbital with med pad at med speed. 1st the ultimate compound, then meguires 205.

and go see the general manager in person- don't do it by email or by phone. Stand outside his door until He'll talk to you if you get pushback.

.

I have a cheap alternative Ive been using for the past 4 years now and find works very well for the price. It's McGiuars DA Power System. It's basically a drill attachment that uses seperate foam pads for each step. I originally bought the entire setup with a small bottle of each (ultimate compound, polish, and wax) for like $60.

No Thanks, I've used one, and it doesn't lay down enough of a uniform surface for a whole car for a major correction, just my opinion.

I would agree it's probably not what you want for a major correction but for minor stuff and simple upkeep I find it great. My car gets very lite use so for me to spend a couple hundred on a real buffer plus pads just isn't worth it for my situation. I'd use it once and probably not need it again for a couple years at the most.

Some people just want to drive. Not visit and revisit a service department.
Certainly not argue over dubious presentation of a new dent.

Follow our advice: Go to the dealership and meet the service manager to start, and then the General Manager if needed.

They DON'T answer phone calls, texts, emails, or voice mail. Too many to ever get to.
