Question adding remote start aftermarket or dealer?

My dad just got a 2012 Impala with the 3.6 LFX engine (boy this this is fast for a family sedan!) and he does have keyless entry and remote start is a option. I am curious what would be more cost effective, aftermarket or dealer based install?

If you get the factory, or dealer installed remote start, dealership mechanics won't blame the remote start everytime you have an electrical problem. Will save money in the long run in non-warranty covered repairs.

Aftermarket is the best route! The range on the factory absolutely sucks. As far as the electrical issues the previous poster mentioned, unless those issues can be linked directly to the remote start that's installed, rarely are they, repairs would still need to be made under warranty...that's the law.

If you go aftermarket have it installed by a reputable shop that takes their time and does it right. I've seen too many times where aftermarket alarms and starters have been installed so poorly that it causes unfortunate problems for the customer down the road.

My Suburban has aftermarket remote start and has had it for 8 years without any problems.
